hearing the twins say that shook me a little. how could someone have no human left in them anymore? i could see brandan waiting for me, but i went the other way, walking towards the cells. towards matt's cell. there he sat, hunched over on his bunk facing outwards, right at me. he must have heard me coming. our eyes locked, similar to when i first encountered brandan, yet this was different...much different. with brandan i had an idea of what might be running through his mind, but with matt there was nothing. just a lifeless set of eyes. maybe the maddens were right

i got a little closer to his cell, trying to see if i could get some sort of reaction out of him. still nothing. he didn't move; he didnt even blink. his crazy colored eyes never left mine. and dont think i'm joking when i say crazy colored; they were a mix of gray and gold, like as a cat's eye.

i got so close that my hands were gripping on the bars and my face was pressed in between them.

finally, matt blinked. i  felt a bit relieved, though no quite sure why. he stood up, walking towards me. i didnt move, not because of fear like last time, more out of curiosity. he came closer, taking hold of the same bars i was holding. ok, now i'm a little freaked out. gripping the bars tight, he too pressed his face between them, just inches away from mine. he was so close that i could hear him breathing, i could feel him breathing. i looked into his eyes, studying them, trying to find life in them. and in that moment, i found it. i couldn't quite pick it out, but i could sense something there, something human in matt. it was deep in his eyes, but when i found it, it was screaming at me, begging to be let out. he's been hiding in that shell for so long. i sat there watching, and matt's mouth began to open, and i could hear the forming of a word.

just as he was about to speak, i was pulled back roughly by my shirt. it was brandan, with the reverend by his side.

"what the fuck are you doing! he could've strangled you!"

i threw his hand off my shoulder, aggrivated, and looked back at matt's cell. he was back on his bunk, this time facing inward and staring at the wall. i sighed in defeat.

"he was about to say something," i whispered, mentally slapping brandan upside the head.

"yea, probably 'im about to kill you'," the reverend laughed. brandan nodded in agreement.

"he's right. that thing just wants to kill." he looked disgusted. when i looked back over to matt, i saw his muscles tense up, and his fists clench. he heard every word they said

i shoved brandan back. his mouth slightly dropped, shocked as hell i guess.

"DONT CALL HIM 'IT'!" i shouted, and made my way outside. as i walked, i got the sense that matt was watching me, and sure enough when i turned around he was.
