♠️♥️Chapter 3♣️♦️
Charlie sits and watches the two play from her blanket nest. As the game goes on, she notices that Asher's shirt is shimmering against his chest. Her eyes narrow as she leans in, realizing the black material is wet.
"Oh, my god!" Her heart jumps out of her chest as panic sets in. "You're bleeding!"
Pulling his concentration from the intense game, Bastian's eyes glance up and land on his chest. "Cinnamon Bear," Papa calmly orders. "Go grab some towels, and first aid supplies."
"He should go to a hos-"
"Do as I say, Charlotte." Papa stands, gently grabbing the panicked girl by the arm and guides her out of the room. He quickly locks the door behind her before she can turn around and try to get in. On the way back, he grabs an unused poker from a fake fireplace and brings it out to the deck. Turning on a gas fire pit, Bastian sticks the metal poker into the fire.
"Mind telling me exactly how you ended up with a bullet in your chest." Bastian's gaze lifts to the boy.
Asher shifts in his chair, completely calm. "I involved myself in something I shouldn't have."
Bastian nods. "You're going to need to cauterize it good." His head tips to the poker that is slowly turning red in the fire. "And it's going to hurt like hell, trust me."
"So I'm told, and I did." His hand disappears and reappears with a lone bullet in his hand. "I just didn't have access to a poker, nor would my brother let me go looking for one in my condition."
Once the poker gets nice a red, Bastian gesture to the boy. "Shirt's going to have to come off, Ace."
"No." Asher firmly shakes his head. "I don't take it off for anyone, even Grimm."
"Is the bullet out?" Bastian cocks a brow up at him.
"Yes, I dug it out first. It's not the first time someone's shot me."
Bastian gives him a doubt filled look. "I've seen five men hold down one to do this, Ace. It's not as easy as you think."
"I poured four into myself and lit them two days ago." He holds up the bullet so that it glints in the fire pit's light. "The others didn't even realize I'd done it until they smelled it."
"I assure you, stabbing yourself with a red hot poker is going to be different."
Asher's expression turns stony. "I've had worse done. I don't feel pain the way you do. If you prefer to stand out here and stay behind me, you can watch and see. I won't make a sound or hesitate."
Bastian let out a hesitant sigh. "If you need help. Ask." Moving behind Asher, Bastian turns his back for added privacy. The sound of the door handle rattling echoes in the room, before loud banging and cursing follows from a furious Cinnamon Bear.
