Chapter 4
Hunting

"Seth, it's time for us to begin the search," Adam said from the office door, "I've already cleared all but the ones that can be done online, or can't legally be done by a COO."
"Thank you, Adam," I grin. I've been very patient, becoming an essential part of my Vampire stepfather's facilities. Now I have a chance to fulfill my real purpose. I'll find Earwyn and bring her here, have our child, and we'll live a perfect little life the way I want it to be. We were already so far behind all our other siblings, now it's time for us to fulfill our destiny.
"I'll leave right away. You do know where she's been living since the ceremony, right?" I asked. I wanted to have fun with this. I plan to track her entire life since that day ten years ago. Give her a little more time, and hone in on her, let her become desperate, to wonder when I'll come. It'll be more fun that way. And if I need a cheat because I've gone the wrong way, Adam will lead me in the right direction again. I have complete faith in his abilities.
"I do, Sir. He lived with his Kelpie and his family for a while, then settled down in another location with a lover," Adam notified.
"Let's go see that house, see what we can glean from them, then visit the new location," I suggest, getting up. I pulled on my black leather coat with the traditional Chinese Characters for storm--風暴--embroidered on it with decorative storm clouds on it. It was from my asin friends in Chinatown a few hours away. They were our laundrying business and poker side deal. We supplied them with protection, and they gave us access to a good business to get rid of dirty money. They were surprisingly loyal people, and the daughter of the owner of their leader fancies me. She was the one who embroidered the words in with the stormy sea pattern on it.
If I didn't already have someone meant for me, I'd think she was made for me. She was so beautiful and obedient. I could only imagine what she'd look like in red silk ribbons...
Oh well. It's not like she could be any better than my destiny. I wonder what it'd be like to see all those expressions on her face. I've only ever seen her calm and grieving. She's so overly emotional and delicate. She was meant to become a Siren with the almost criminal beauty she has. She was so feminine back then, I wonder if she's grown out of that or if becoming a Siren only made her more so.
I thought all about how she could have changed, how her delicate beauty and achingly sweet smile would look like directed at me, while we flew to Missouri, Adam then driving me to the Kelpie's home. He stopped in front of a nice soft yellow three-story house with brick steps and a white porch with beautiful wooden rocking chairs, succulents growing from hanging plants, and a rope hammock at the corner of the porch.
Sitting in one of the rocking chairs was a very old man. He looked human and didn't notice us as we walked to the door, not until he nearly tripped Adam with his wooden cane. "Who are you here to visit?" he asked.
"We're acquaintances of Sam and Earwyn. I was told I could find them here?" I ask.
"You smell like a Siren and his Kelpie. Are you here to torment the poor kids?" he growled with protectiveness.
"On the contrary, dear Sir. We've recently heard of their loss and wish to give our condolences," Adam intervened.
"That's what I mean by tormenting them. Earwyn, as you call her, can't hear that poor boy's name without falling apart, and Sam will feel helpless when that happens. It's best if you leave those two alone," the man demanded.
"Then is their condition still too fragile? Should we wait a little longer to pay a visit?" Adam asked, pulling out his oscar worthy act. If I didn't know him well enough, I'd think he was actually a friend, that he was actually concerned.
"If it's too much trouble, we could pretend to be here for a social call, that we were in the area and wished to drop by," I offered in order to sell our concern.
"Well... I suppose so. Sam was just about to go visit the Beach house where Earwyn is recovering at. Sam judged her sane enough that she wouldn't commit suicide, so he sent the poor lass up there. Have a paper and pen?" the man asked, reaching out.
Adam handed the paper to the man, then took the address. "Thank you, sir. I wish you fair health!" Adam waved as we walked back to the car.
Adam looked worried as he memorized the address. "Problem?" I asked.
"Sir... this town is a convergence point for all magical types, because of the caves where the kings were set to sleep eight hundred years ago. All that magic in one place draws magical blooded creatures to live and stay there," Adam claimed, "And they have a waterhole that if you drink from it, you can never leave that town for long, because the magic seeps into the water, making it addictive," he explained, "if they get dependant on that water, it's almost like a drug, and they'll die without it."
I cursed, "Why'd they let her go to someplace so dangerous?" I exclaimed.
"Because Vampires, Olms, Sirens, and Kelpies are immune to it. Basically, anything immortal or technically dead can drink as much as they want, and not want or need to come back for hundreds of years. Kelpies all know and avoid that place, they don't think others will go there," Adam sheepishly admitted.
"Seriously?" I asked, "You nearly gave me a heart attack," I darkly glared at Adam, who was smothering laughter.
"Let's get there, already. I'm tired of waiting to get my prize," I settle into my seat, waiting for the end of my journey. This was getting boring, and I wanted her. Wanted her so badly it was as if she was the center of my world, and I needed to start orbiting around her as I should be.
