The world was a mess, people had lost every single peace of respect Matt had for them.
In a world that was constantly growing most people forgot things such as respect and hope. Growing up with parents who thought the world revolved around God Matt had certain traits.
Despite the fact he didn’t like everyone he was always kind.
Most of Matt’s years growing up were spent alone or with his one friend, he constantly pushed people away in fear that they would be the same assholes as everyone else.
In ninth grade his only friend moved across the country leaving him alone. Needing to find stuff to do he turned to his phone, the internet became his escape, a place he could speak his thoughts.
He made up one anonymous account which went by the name, ‘sad lonely kid.’
He also turned to a new app Vine, deciding to put himself out to the world for once beside hiding behind a fake name.
His first vine he was stupid yet it hit over a thousand loops in one day so he posted another, then another. Eventually his Vine account grew and people wanted to be his friend.
Matt still disliked the idea of being around lots of people but with his new found fame and people wanting pictures he had to get more comfortable.
His parents were happy that he was making friends and came out of his shell.
The fame however started to take over his life, when Magcon started it began to become a place he could go and hang out with people who had the same problems as his.
The fame only grew and the fans only go worse, they became possessive. Always saying that Matthew was theirs and nobody else could touch him.
The attention and support was great but not the things it brought on, it caused Matt to have to give up many things in life.
It had been a few months since all the deaths and everyone was starting to come around. By everyone Matt meant the only ones left, Nash, Cameron, Aaron and himself.
Of course Shawn was still alive but he left. He left because of Matt and his hateful words however everything Matt said was true.
Shawn had changed from fame, he was no longer the sweet Canadian boy and Matt couldn’t stand it so he yelled at him. He didn’t mean to take it that far.
Accidents are what caused this all.
Nobody else saw that, Hayes’ crash was an accident, Nash’s collision was an accident, of course most of what the other boys did were not accidents but that’s what lead up to them.
As much as Matt would like to blame this all on accidents he knew the truth deep down, he had too many late night talks with the boys, he knew the real reasons.
Bad childhood, fame, there were too many real reasons to why this all happened. Once one person left another saw it as an opportunity.
Matt’s life, besides the fame, was perfectly fine. He had friends and a family and even though both of those things were breaking he didn’t loose hope or get upset.
It was their choice to get out easy, their choice to end their lives. Matt knew there was nothing he could do to change their mind other than be there for them all, however how do you show someone you care if their so set unthinking you don’t?
Life was a gift, Matt knew that. It wasn’t to be played with or passed on like fire.
Standing from his spot by his childhood home window he walked towards his mom. Embracing her in a hug. His father had just passed from a stroke.
“It was just his time.”
Was what he whispered in her ear, and it was true.
His mother felt guilty, here she was getting comforted by her son who had just lost six of his closest friends.
Matt felt guilty that he had been spending so much time on something from the past and din’t spend enough time with his family whom he knew had been struggling.
His friends, what was left of them, were still at the Grier household in North Carolina attempting to help Nash who was still silent other than speaking at funerals.
Hugging his mom, aunts and uncles he left his house, heading towards the airport to catch a flight to Canada. He knew what he had to do, what the boys would have wanted him to do.
Arriving at the airport and handing the taxi driver the correct amount of money he ran inside and bought a one-way ticket to Toronto.
Walking into the waiting area he took a seat next a girl with long dark hair. They started talking and Matt learned her name was Lilian, she was going to Canada to see her dad who had moved when she was only seven.
She knew who he was but didn’t freak out which made Matt happy. She told him that what he did was cool and that was as far into that conversation as they went.
Getting off the plane they swapped numbers, promising they would text and meet up later.
He had been to Shawn’s house multiple times so he jumped into a taxi and gave me the address. It was only just over an hour away from the airport.
Going on his phone he answered the few texts he had from the boys and one from Lillian, they started texted back and fourth continually.
It had become dark quickly and the highways where slowly becoming less crowded as they neared Pickering.
Looking up from his phone as he saw a bright light. Focusing on the lights more they made out headlights. Thats the last thing he saw.
That night it was on the news, all he wanted was to say sorry.
Heartbreak, sorrow, headlights and darkness.
Nine were down, how many more where to go?
