from infancy to her toddler years, y/n managed to stay pretty much the same. overall quite stoic and quiet - but even she became excited over the topic of halloween. the thought of gathering candy for doing nothing more than dressing up and essentially asking for it was simply easy. that being the reason she appreciated it so much.
"any idea of what you wanna be?"
river asked her, hoping this time she would have decided what she wanted to be. this conversation had been discussed way before the important holiday was close to be celebrated. y/n among other people, could be indecisive at times.
"i think so." she responded, taking a sip of hot chocolate she stole from river. river's eyebrows raised curiously - wanting to know what she had finally decided on being. "what would that be?" she looked towards him - a proud smile soon appearing. "you!"
"me?" y/n nodded quickly, her smile just as wide as before - her newly lost tooth showing in the her smile. "in the jones movie!" she added, clarifying the questions river had in his mind. "oh! that sounds perfect!" he said in the same tone as her, he too smiling to her.
indiana jones, or as y/n referred to him as: jones. "i'm sure you'll pull it off perfectly." he encouraged. "i hope. i'm your daughter for a reason." hearing her response he chuckled, not quite expecting that to be what she'd say. "looking fairly similar to young jones is one the reasons for sure," he paused - inhaling.
"hey, you're taking all of it." he mused playfully, taking the mug from her hands - before bringing it to his lips to get a taste of chocolate both the phoenix's quite enjoyed. "you took it all last time." she reminded him, laughing as she continued looking up towards him.
this cafe had been somewhere river visited often as a teenager, so once y/n came along it only made sense for her to come along with him - hopefully enjoying it just as much as he did.
luckily for river, the unknown comfort the place brought him seemed to be understood by y/n - that being the main reason they made an effort to come every saturday morning.
river saw it as time where he could spend time with his daughter without having the thought of anything besides her come into his mind. he appreciated the unadulterated time he could have with her, even if it was seemingly short.
y/n wasn't old enough to exactly comprehend the feeling he had about their shared saturdays - only seeing it as a time where she could be with him while having hot chocolate... specifically one cup of hot chocolate.
"welcome in!"
one of the baristas said, acknowledging their new customers inside. river pushed the stroller holding y/n, inside; a content grin on his face once the smell of coffee hit his nostrils. it had been months since he last was here, so he felt today was the perfect time to revisit his place of relaxation.
both his hands held onto the handrail as he pushed it forward, his eyes steadied on the short line in front of the cashier.
he didn't mind waiting, not exactly having anything else to do besides wait for a few short minutes. as he waited, he looked down to y/n - watching as she silently slept, the pacifier in her mouth moving as she gnawed on it. river found it cute, even smiling down towards her. he extended his hand into her space, tucking the edge of her blanket that managed to lift while she moved on the way to the cafe.
