(Time skip, two months later)

I've been undercover for two months now.  I'm close to the source of the leakage.  A lot has happened in the past two months.  That first attack was one of many.  I had four attacks in one week.  There is no reason why I'm targeting, it's just because I'm an outsider who has taken a powerful position from a native of the village.  These criminals have been hired by different councilmen to scare me away.  If I wasn't here on a mission, I'd kill them all.  It gets so annoying trying to fight low-class criminals almost daily.

There's one councilmen I've gotten close to and his name is Raiden.  He was appointed six months before I was.  Even though he's a new councilmen, he has access to more information than I do since he's a native to the village.  We've developed a friendship outside of work and I'm able to gather some confidential information.  It turns out, the councilmen aren't the one leaking the information originally, it's someone from the Hidden Leaf.  I haven't gotten a name yet, but I've let Tsunade know and tell her not to act yet.  "How are you Maki?" Raiden asks me.  "Tired and angry.  I'm sick of those bastard councilmen hiring people to go after me almost daily" I say.  "I know but there's nothing I can do.  This is how the village is ran and there's nothing anyone can do about it.  Even Lady Mizukage.  We are the ones who actually run the nation.", he says.  He's not wrong.  The Hidden Mist is so corrupt compared to any village.  The councilmen hire the 7 Swordsmen to kill other shinobis in their bingo books and gather the reward.  They also manipulate the Mizukage into giving them power and there's nothing she can do.  It's a village against her.  Raiden has also done questionable things.  My time is almost up since they have found a suitable candidate but I can't be replaced just yet.  I still need to know who it is.

"Do you want to go out to dinner tonight?" he asks out of the blue.  I look shocked.  Keep your cool Kazuko, you have to say yes to not draw suspicion.  "That was sudden, but yes I would love to." I say with a smile.  "I don't want you to get the wrong idea, but I've enjoyed developing a friendship with you and like spending time outside of work with you", he says.  I can feel the anxiety in my chest dissipate slightly.  "I enjoy spending time with you too.  It's nice to have someone close to my age to hangout with when I know no one in this village", I say.  It's not a lie, I do enjoy hanging out with him.  "Sounds great then Maki.  I'll pick you up at 6:30", Raiden says as he leaves the office.  I finish filing paperwork and clean up my area.

...

I go back to my apartment and I get ready for dinner.  I put on a black skirt with a white blouse.  I'm not going to dress up too fancy, this isn't a date after all.  I freshen up my face and I do my hair.  I hear a knock on my door and I look in the peephole.  Raiden is standing there holding a bouquet of flowers.  Why the hell did he bring flowers?  I thought this wasn't a date.  I open the door and let him in.  "Those are beautiful flowers", I say.  "I figured I couldn't take you out to dinner without bringing you flowers", he says as he hands them to me.  They're beautiful sakura flowers.  "That's so thoughtful, thank you Raiden", I say as I put them in a vase with water.  He holds his arm out for me to grab.  "Ready to go?", he asks.  I smile and grab his arm, "yes, I am".

We walk through the village to the restaurant.  It's a hibachi restaurant which I've heard good things about.  I haven't had time to try it since I've been busy diving into my mission.  We sit down and order tea.  "There's a reason I've asked you to meet me for dinner beside hanging out outside of work", Raiden starts.  "I wanted to let you know that we have found someone to replace you and they will be sworn in next week.  I was the one who was asked to inform you", he finishes.  I pretend to look disappointed and he grabs my hand.  I panic internally.  "I'm sad to see you leave, but I will cherish the time we've spent together", he says sweetly.  I smile and take a sip of tea.  Our food comes out and we talk like old friends.  We ordered several drinks so we're a little tipsy.  Or at least, I am.  I think Raiden drank more than he can handle.  "Y-you know Maki, I th- I think you're beautiful", he slurs as we pay the bill and leave.  "Do you need help?  I can't let you walk home alone", I say.  "Y-you want to come ha-home with me?", he says.  "Yes, I can't leave you vulnerable.  Especially the power you hold", I say.  "Come on, stand up", I say as I hold out.  He stands up drunkenly and stumbles.  I catch him before he falls and put his arm around my shoulder.  "M-Maki.  I want to kiss you", he says as we walk towards his house.  "Let's not jeopardize our relationship, Raiden.  That's not smart", I say.  We make it to his house and we go inside.  I bring him to his room and sit him on his bed.  He flops like a fish facedown and I position him to lay on his side.  "Thank you f-for taking care of me", he hiccups.  I just smile and I tuck him in.  Raiden falls fast asleep.

I hear him snore and I decide it's the perfect time to snoop.  I suppress my chakra just in case.  I look in his drawers and don't find anything.  I look in his closets, other rooms, under the mattresses, bookshelves, and even the kitchen drawers.  I've been searching for thirty minutes and I almost give up until I look at a painting in the living room.  There's something not right about it.  I inspect it and I move it to the left.  Nothing.  Damn it.  I move it to the right and still nothing.  I move it upwards and I hear something open.  I look down and see a floorboard pop up.  I open it to find documents.  I look through them and it's the plans of our villages military.  I read the files and I find the name.  Danzo.  Of course it's him.  That man has always been up to no good.  I put the files back and I close the floorboard.  I reset the painting and I phase into a water puddle that spills outside of the front door.  Since the ground is always covered in mist, I swim through the droplets until I've reached my apartment.  I phase back into my solid form and I enter my apartment.  "Water prison jutsu", I say as I seal every entrance in my house.  "Summoning jutsu", I saw as I summon Poe.  "CaCAW.  How may I assist you?", Poe says.  "I found out who the traitor is.  Give this to Tsunade and hurry!" I say as I give the note to Poe.  "CaCAW.  Yes madam.  Right away".  Poe poofs into the air.

My job here is done.  I clean the apartment of my existence.  I wipe every trace of Maki Suzuki and I burn anything that can be traced back to my alias.  I pack my bag and I phase into a water puddle and I phase through the mist and puddles on the ground.  This is the safest way I can leave the village.

(Three days later)

I make it to the Hidden Leaf.  I didn't stop to rest at all on the journey back.  I walk through the gates and I get warmly welcomed by Genma and Kotetsu.  "Congratulations on your first successful mission, Kazuko.  We're happy to have you back.  Report to Lady Tsunade.", Genma says.  I thank them and enter the village.  I stop at the gate and I take a look at the village.  All the vibrant colors, the sweet sounds of the birds chirping their morning song, and the noises of a happy village.  I take a deep breath of dry, pure air.  I walk inside and head straight for Tsunade's office.  I knock on the door and I hear Tsunade tell me to enter.  "Good morning Lady Tsunade", I say as I bow.  "Kazuko!  It's wonderful to see you after all this time!  Debrief me on your mission".  I spent two hours at her office debriefing her on my findings, giving her evidence, and filling out reports.

"As much as I would love to catch up, I know you need your rest.  Let's grab lunch or dinner sometime.  Congratulations on successfully completing your first mission, Kazuko.  The village thanks you for your service.  Now go home and get some rest", Tsunade says with a smile.  I thank her and I rush home.  I go to the apartment and first things first, I take a nice long shower.  I restore my hair to it's natural color and I ditch the green contacts.  I throw on an oversized shirt and I go to bed.  As soon as my head hits the pillow, I fall fast asleep.

Kakashi's POV

I've had a rough couple of months without Kazuko.  My nightmares seem to have been getting worse.  I've been busy with small missions, my team, and friends.  Me and Gai have even completed some of our competitions.  I've been with the kids a lot and they've kept my mind off of the loneliness I feel without Kazuko.  Today's been a busy day with Naruto, Sai, and Sakura.  We've been training because there's a threat of war.  The Akatsuki has disbanded but there's a threat with the tailed beasts and Sasuke has returned.

I walk back to my apartment to clean up after training.  After walking up the stairs, I sense a familiar chakra.  The sensation is so strong.  It feels like there's electricity running through my body.  I haven't felt this chakra in a while.  Whose is it?  I stop in front of my door and it clicks.

It's her.  She's back.
