Everyone sat outside on the veranda at the big table filled with yummy foods and amazing views of the ocean and the big pool they have. Skylar looked around at the table seeing where all the seating arrangements were and names on every plate and sat down to her name, not realizing that Jackson is right next to her.
"great" she mumbled under her breath and her mother who sat opposite to her gave her a look as everyone finished sitting down. A man stood up fixed his clothes and held up his wine glass as the rest of the table held their glasses, "a toast, for new family members, old family members, and the soon-to-be, merry Christmas" they said taking a sip of their wine and Skylar rolled her eyes chugging all hers down in one go.
As she filled her glass once again her mother looked up at her, "so how is finding a new husband going?" she asked the girl and she started to place food onto her plate, "still looking mother" Skylar said sarcastically as she started to eat.
"You need to find someone Skylar, Miles has a potential wife, and you need a husband, there is the perfect person right next to you" she directed to Jackson who was eating away at his food, and Skylar let out a huff.
"Mum, no we didn't work out okay just leave it, I don't need a husband to live" the whole table gasped at her words and stared at her. Skylar's family was very big on settling down and starting a family. They had always pushed her ever since she got into her 20's to find a man to marry one day and Skylar did until he cheated on her and took every feeling, she had about getting married.
Skylar's father stood up breaking the silence and looked at her and Miles with a smile. "well, we were going to tell you both this later, but we are all going on a vacation together. Me, your mother, and both of you" he placed two tickets down on the table right in front of us and the siblings dropped their cutlery and picked up the ticket.
"Charleston, North Carolina? isn't that where they shoot that tv show? Outer Banks?" Miles asked and their mother nodded, "yes, it is and maybe you can marry one of them, Skylar," she smiled and Skylar threw her napkin from her lap onto the table going inside.
Miles followed after and run up to her, "come on she just wants you to be happy" he said as Skylar moved some hair out of her face, "you don't get it Miles, all she wants is for me to get married she doesn't even care if I marry a guy who cheated on me!" she yelled and Miles shushed her and looked back quickly at the group.
"Look Sky, let's just go on this trip and I will make sure she doesn't bring it up okay I will talk to her. Come on think about the beach and parties" Skylar sighed with a smile, "fine but I am doing this for you" she pointed to him as they both chuckled.
She held up the ticket and held it in eye view and looked at the date, "omg we leave tomorrow" the girl's eyes widened and her brother's eyes did as well, "tomorrow, that seems very soon. Probably why they told us not to unpack" Skylar nodded in agreement and walked back to the table with her brother sitting back down.
"Skylar are you okay with this trip? your mother and I only want you to be happy, honey" her dad said holding her mother's hand on the table and looking at her, "yeah the trip could be fun" she smiled and continued eating her meal with everyone else talking and laughing with the family.
After lunch, she went up to her room and started to repack everything being that she ignored her parents and unpacked anyway. She looked through her old clothes and a knock on the door appeared as she yelled to them that the door was open. Her father walked through and sat on her bed, "hey look, I am really sorry about how your mother keeps telling you to find a husband, but my advice is to work at your own pace and not worry about your mother being disappointed before deciding to have a husband."
Skylar dropped her hands down to her sides and walked over to her father giving him a big hug and not letting go, "hey dad, thank you for everything you have done for this family, work hard, pay bills" he let go of her and kissed her forehead.
"I would do anything for our family, princess," he left the room and Skylar finished packing all over again keeping only the clothes she needs out and ready to go.
Night fell and Skylar decided to go for a late-night swim when everyone was asleep, but Jackson also thought the same thing as he walked to the pool seeing Skylar sit there in her red bikini relaxing, "room for one more?" he asked politely and she looked back nodding in response.
He made his way into the pool and went to the other side of the pool where the glass was looking out at the ocean and a small part of the town, "amazing view isn't it?" he asks Skylar. She got into the pool and made her way towards the glass not making eye contact with him and just looking out to the view.
"Yeah, yeah it is" she smiled as they stood in silence, their hands slowly moving closer together till they are holding one another. Skylar looks beside her towards him as he does the same and he starts to slowly move closer to her until their lips touch making a passionate kiss.
Skylar pulls away and let go of his hand, "Jackson I'm sorry-" he nodded softly in sadness, and she walked away leaving the pool and drying off before going inside to her room.
She put her pyjamas on and laid down in bed staring at the roof in the dark. She couldn't help but wonder if she still felt something for him or if it was just an 'in the moment' kind of thing. Her mind was all over the place, she pushed the covers off her getting out of bed, and walked over to the window looking down at the pool to see the lonely boy standing in the water with only swimmer shorts on.
"Why did I have to kiss him back" she huffed walking back to bed and getting under the covers and falling asleep before having to get on the plane the next day.
