Metropolis
2013A young woman drove through the busy streets of Metropolis in her black Chevrolet Camaro, listening to the radio hosts talking about the events which had occurred only hours ago. She sighed and muted the radio. She did not want to be reminded of the reason her eyes were droopy and felt a yawn coming on every five seconds.
Emma Wayne sighed. A whine came from the passenger seat. She looked over to see her dog, Echo, staring at her. A concerned look in his eyes.
Echo was a 3 year old Husky mix. Mix with what, even the animal shelter staff weren't sure. He had a thick and dense coat that made him look even larger than he already was. His coat was quite interesting and not of a typical husky looking dog.
He was what was called an Agouti Husky. He had a mix of black and brown fur in a scattered pattern, with silver markings in various places, including around his eyes. The staff told Emma the markings around his eyes were called goggles, as they looked like goggles, obviously. But his striking blue eyes truly made him stand out in Emma's eyes.
The first moment she laid eyes on Echo, she fell in love and knew he was coming home with her. Emma promised Echo he would be given the best life.
Emma smiled and pet his gigantic head. "I'm alright, buddy," she said turning her head back to the road. "Just trying to figure out a million things at once."
Emma clutched the sterring wheel, wondering how in the hell she could take on something like this. And just like that, her anxiety bubbled to the surface. Last night, the entire world became under threat of these... aliens from a distant planet. They were looking for one of their own on Earth.
Emma couldn't think of that, not at he moment. She had to deal with thousands other problems brought up because of what had occurred last night. Emma's employees were worried -- rightfully so -- and she had to deal with concerned shareholders of Wayne Enterprises.
Emma's father had given her control of the Wayne Enterprises Building of Metropolis when she had showed she could handle the work and knew her trade. She had done well, certainly better than she thought she would. Though Emma believes she could do better still.
She gave Echo a gentle scratch on his neck as she pulled into the underground garage of the Wayne Enterprises building. Emma parked in her reserved spot and got out the car. She smiled to an older man who stood waiting for her at the entrance to the elevator as she walked around the car to the passenger door.
"Good morning, Jack," Emma greeted as she opened the door for Echo to get out. The dog loyally walked beside his human with no trouble.
Jack nodded to her. "Good morning Ms. Wayne," he replied.
Emma smirked, walking toward Jack. "What did I say about calling me that," Her tone was light.
"Alright," Jack chuckled as he pressed the button for the elevator. "Just trying to lighten the mood a bit."
Emma sighed. "Yeah." A ding sounded before the doors opened. The walked in and Emma pressed the button for the 22nd floor.
The doors closed and the elevator began to rise. Jack looked down to Emma's four legged companion and pet his head.
"And good morning to you, Echo," Jack said.
His tail began to wag happily. Echo was a bit of an old soul. But he was always up for any adventure.
Since Echo was a puppy, he had always come with her to work. Or really, he came with her everywhere. The employees loved him. He brightened everyone's day. Though it came at no surprise.
