"You mean that?" I asked him with shock.
"Of course I do. You're my queen, and Jj's my little princess. I would be homered if I could be your king, but if not then it's understandable." He said as-a-matter-of-factly.
"Jensen, I- that's a lot to take in." I said, I finally had my thoughts under control, and I was ready to tell him.
"I know, I'm sorry." He said. His voice was calm, it wasn't hurt or angry, but it was calm, just like his expressions.
Jensen was telling the truth, and it was about time I told him the truth from me. The honest truth, no hesitation, no questions, no doubt, just the pure honest truth.
"Don't be sorry, I have something to tell you. Jensen I-"
I was cut off by a shrill scream. Looking up I saw Jj's horse bolting off, and poor Jj holding on for dear life.
In less than a second I saw Jensen chasing after her on his horse, the intensity of it all was over whelming as I got my horse to chase his.
Jensen had caught up to Jj and reached for her with one hand. I could hear him shouting at his daughter, not an angry or panicked shout, calm and trusting.
"Jj, babygirl, look at me I'm right here okay?"
I could faintly see her turn her head towards him. I pushed my horse faster.
"Grab my hand and jump, I'll catch you I promise." Jensen said as he stretched his hand further out.
Jj nodded her head, and I could see her slowly going through the action in her mind, turning it over and over.
She thrusted her hand out towards Jensen, barely grabbing his as soon as she jumped off off her horse. Jensen got a hold of her arm and pulled her in front of him on his horse as he began to slow down.
My horse went right past them as I chased Jj's runaway horse. We quickly caught up to him and brought him back to the rest of the horses.
Jj lay curled up in her father's arms, crying quietly. Jensen held her in his arms protectively, whispering comforting things in her ear, and kissing her on the forehead occasionally.
I ran my hand down her back, and gave her a light squeeze on the shoulder, and gave Jensen a small smile. That was too close, way to close.
When we got off the trails and back in the ranch, Jensen handed Jj to me, and dismounted his horse, then took Jj back in his arms.
She went with him willingly, and snuggled back into his arms. We walked back to the parking lot in silence. We did get a total refund on behalf of Jj, although she was still scared to death, poor thing.
Jensen went to put her in the back seat while I hopped into the passenger seat. She was still sniffling, but she'd stopped crying. Progress?
The drive home was silent except for the occasional 'are you okay?' Or 'are you hurt?' Or even a 'do you need anything' and the answers were always the same. 'Yes.', 'No.' and another 'No.'
Eventually it just got to the point where Jj had just said that she wanted to go home.
Jensen had pulled back into the driveway of the freaking mansion he rented out, and Jj began to protest.
"I said I wanted to go home. Not here, home." She whined.
Jensen shot a glance at me. I shook my head.
"Jj, just because of one bad day doesn't mean it'll ruin the entire vacation. You have to keep looking up, get back in the saddle." He said, turning around in his seat.
"Get back in the saddle? I don't ever want to get back in the saddle again. I could've died!" Jj yelled.
I winced at her yelling, it was loud and very high pitched.
"Jj, we understand that you could've been killed, and that you were scared. But look, you're okay." Jensen said calmly.
"And who made sure that you were okay?" I added in.
"Jensen." She said.
"So you do you think will make sure you're okay the rest of this trip?" I asked her.
"Jensen." She sighed.
"And who else?" Jensen asked her.
"Y/n." She mumbled.
"Listen, we'll make a deal with you. Two more days, and if you can't handle the two more days then we'll pack everything up, and we'll go home. But we'll be in California in just a day. Do you really want to give that up?"
Jj thought it over. "No, I want to go to California. But if I don't like those two days then we leave?" She asked.
"Only if you want to." Jensen said.
"Deal." And with that Jj got out of the car and walked into the mansion.
Jensen sighed and rubbed his temples. I placed my hand on his shoulder and gave him a squeeze. "It'll be okay. She's alright, your alright, I'm alright. It's all gonna work out, okay Jay?"
He nodded his head and one of his hands found mine, and squeezed it gently.
He looked up at me. "What are we going to do if she decides she wants to leave? What are you going to do?"
"We'll figure it out if it gets here. As for me, if she decides she doesn't want to do this trip anymore then, I'll be in the office looking for a new job."
"But you don't have too, you know how I feel about you, I sorta know how you feel about me, why do you still want to leave so badly?" He looked broken.
I hated how much pain I was causing him, he shouldn't be going through this, through any of this. And yet I'm the one making him drag himself through the mud.
I stayed silent trying to find an answer for his question, when he starting whispering. "What we're you going to tell me?"
"What do you mean?"
"Before the whole Jj fiasco, you said you needed to tell me something, what was it?"
He was asking, and the truth needed to be heard. Although, this would hurt him more, wouldn't it.
"I was going to tell you that I wouldn't mind if you were my king."
"Then why do you want to leave? I'm already yours."
"Because no matter how hard we try, it wouldn't work." I said, dropping my head.
"What do you mean it wouldn't work?" His voice broke, and a tear fell down his cheek.
"I...I don't know."
