SOUL, the very essence of one's being, whether you're a monster, a human, a demon. Any SOUL takes a form of a heart, a human's points down, monster's points up. Human SOULs are stronger than monsters' SOULs. For this reason, human SOULs persist after death. A human's SOUL is their essence housed in a physical body. A monster's SOUL is weak and does not persist after death unless the said monster is strong enough. Love, hope, and compassion compose a monster's SOUL. Human SOULs, which are much stronger, do not need any of these traits. Nearly every monster SOUL combined equates to the power of one human SOUL.
-Beginner's Guide to Understand Humans And Monsters
"Daaad, this book hurts my heaaad, why can't we just read fairy tale books?"
Asriel whined looking up and to the pile of thick books in front of him, imagining that he and Asgore would take hours just to read all of it hurts his head.
"Asriel, I know it's a lot for 6 years old to learn, but you're going to be the king one day, this lesson is very important, you know."
As Asriel was struck by guilt due to his whining, another monster stepped inside the room.
"Oh let him rest a bit dear, how about we have butterscotch and cinnamon pie for morning tea time? It's cooling in the kitchen as we speak."
It was his mother, Queen Toriel. As if reading his mind, Toriel opened the door and asks Asgore if he were to come. The scent of freshly baked butterscotch and cinnamon pie fills the room. It was clear to Asriel that his father wouldn't be able to hold the temptation of the pleasant scent.
"YAAYY!! You're the best mom!"
The excited little monster jumped up and down before running to the hallway that leads to the dining room.
"Don't run dear, be careful."
"Oh yeah, I forgot, hehehe."
Before continuing to the source of the pleasant pie scent, Asriel was stopped to look at a table with a flowerpot on it. Inside was blackish-brown colored flowers.
"Ah, it seems our sweet-scented marigold received too much water."
Asriel seems to be sad at this fact, he picked those flowers when he first came out to the lands above, that was his fondest memory yet.
"Aww no, can we fix it, dad?"
"I'm afraid it's too late, there's nothing much we can do."
Thinking for a bit while resting his head on the table, he has come with an idea THAT HE'LL REGRET for the rest of his life.
"Well, there's one thing I can do! I can take the ones in front of the old castle, we're allowed to do that right?"
Asgore and Toriel looked at each other, trying to decide what they should do. They knew those flowers are very important for their dearest child, but they don't wanna lose him either.
