"Looks like you're gonna have to go with plan b, Nerd," Katsuki grumbles from his spot on Izuku's bed. There's going to come a point where he'll have to stop sleeping in the same bed as the nerd every time he stays over. They're not little kids anymore, so it's not exactly the most appropriate sleeping situation. "I got nothing. It's almost like he was suspicious of my questions and shut the fuck down before I could try questioning about his birth name."
"It's okay, Kacchan. I figured we wouldn't find out that way, so I already sent in for it. I just wish I knew how long it would be before it arrives. I don't want dad or papa to see the envelope when it arrives."
"Night, Nerd."
"Good night, Kacchan."
As the week passes, Izuku does his best to be the one to check the mail. He's thankful that the mailbox is outside the house making it so that he doesn't have to worry about his dad getting it. Shouta doesn't even want to go outside to get I the car for his appointments let alone to do something as menial as walking to the mailbox.
"It finally arrived," Izuku whispers to Katsuki as he slips an envelope into the other boy's hand. "Get it to my room undetected."
Hitoshi watchs them confused. He doesn't know what they're planning, but he definitely wants to figure it out, so he follows Katsuki and waits with him until Izuku meets them in the bedroom.
Here, Nerd," Katsuki basically shoves the envelope into Izuku's hands. "It's in your name, so you fucking open it."
"What exactly is it?" Hitoshi asks wanting to be in the loop.
Katsuki and Izuku give each other a questioning glance. Katsuki is the one to break the silence.
"You know how Mic is gender fluid, right?" Katsuki asks hating that he's about to say what he's has to for the plan to make any sense to Hitoshi. Shouta hasn't expressly told them not to tell the boy that he's transgender, but he hasn't necessarily said they could either. Not like it should matter since Hitoshi is good with everyone being theirselves, even if he can be an idiot sometimes.
Hitoshi nods not sure where this is going.
"Dad's different too," Izuku cuts in. If anyone is saying it, it should be him, not Katsuki. "He's like Kacchan, born female, but he's really male."
Hitoshi's eyes widen in shock as he puts the pieces together. "Y-you think he's..."
Izuku grinns holding up the envelope. "I requested a copy of my koseki. If he is, you should appear on it, even though you were adopted out."
"B-but Aizawa-san and Yamada-san aren't old enough to be my parents. They would have been, what, sixteen?"
"Do you remember why papa didn't want to adopt me originally?"
Hitoshi remembers that conversation well. Not only did it get Izuku a chance at being adopted by his current parents, but that conversation had also helped Akira. "He had a kid that he had to put up for adoption because of his circumstances at the time, and he worried that if the kid found him, they'd resent him for choosing someone else's child over them."
Izuku nods. "Dad and papa were sixteen when that happened. They've never described him to me, but they have mentioned that the baby was a boy."
"Shouta told me last week that you remind him of that kid, too." Katsuki adds. "He didn't say how, though. It might just be because you're adopted."
Hope starts to grow in Hitoshi's heart. Could his found family be his actual family?
Izuku starts opening the envelope, and to Hitoshi its like he's opening it in slow motion. His eyes never leave Izuku's hands as the green haired boy unfolds the document and reads it.
"Damn it!" is the unusual exclamation that exits Izuku's mouth. With those two words, all of Hitoshi's hope is deflated.
"What's wrong, Nerd?" Katsuki asks just as disappointed by the exclamation as Hitoshi is.
"They sent me the wrong koseki," Izuku murmurs realizing what he had said. "I was sent the one for my birth family, not my adoptive one."
Hitoshi breaths a sigh of relief after that explanation. He had worried that Izuku was wrong. He hopes that Izuku isn't wrong.
