Chapter 3 - A Stakeout
I had no choice but to agree with the Wolves' assignment. They had proved to me that they knew way more about me than they were letting on. In all honesty, I was intimidated. I went to the location provided by the group's boss and took my stakeout position atop the branches of a large tree. I had a partially good vantage point, well that is, if I were a sniper, but aside from seeing everything, it wasn't anything special. I was more of a close combat type of assassin.
I waited for a bit, watching the members of the Silver Whispers group go around their business while looking for my target. I looked down at the picture Mori had given me to give me a visual of my victim. The young male looked around eighteen or nineteen years of age and had silvery hair. His eyes were a dual shade of purple and yellow, meaning he had hetrochromia. Honestly the male looked rather attractive but that's nothing new with me. I've found a few of my targets, both males and females, attractive but my job was to kill, not to save.
I saw a rather tall man walking around, speaking on the phone with someone possibly in another room in the location. The Silver Whispers' base was massive compared to my home with Gin and it was around half the size of the Port's Wolves' base. How the heck could these guys get bases this big, I had no idea. As I was watching the man I noticed something in his tone of voice. He was nearest to the tree I was perched in so I heard his conversation pretty well.
"You do realize how much trouble you are in, right?" he asked the other entity. I was unsure of what the other person said but I'm sure they said yes or something along that line. The man shook his head and sighed.
His wavy brown hair swung from side to side in the wind. His long beige trench coat blew in the cool night breeze. He sent me the message that he was someone of high importance as well. I decided then that I needed to gather information from him. Once he put his phone down, I reacted, activating my ability and springing from my place, wrapping one of Rashomon's tendril around the brown haired man's throat. I caught him by surprise, I could tell by the reaction he gave me but as soon as he touched my ability, it vanished. I was wide-eyed for a few seconds before quickly unsheathing a knife I had and putting it at his throat. My Rashomon may be gone but my mentor taught me everything he knew about self defense with fists and weapons and he was one of the best fighters I knew.
The man seemed composed now and he looked at me coldly.
"So I suppose you are the assassin we heard of? The one coming to assassinate Atsushi-kun?" he asked. I growled, not making a word. The man smirked. "Oh, so you are!"
How could he tell my intentions? This man was something.
"The name's Oamu Dazai by the way and if you are looking for information, here's all I'll say. Third floor. Room 156." I tilted my head at him. He was so calm it worried me.
"How should I know that I can trust that?" I asked cautiously. Dazai sneered at me and suddenly I felt his hand at one of my pressure points, lightly adding force.
"It is because if I were going to stop you, you would have been captured and interrogated already."
I jumped back, not liking this and glared at him. I always hated people like this, the ones that showed off their power and didn't seem to show fear but I knew full well they still felt fear. This man probably didn't fear me but I had a feeling he feared something else. Maybe losing someone? Dazai backed away from me, getting swallowed in the shadows in the areas he issued his last words to me at the time.
"I wish you good luck on your assignment." And just like that, he was gone. I was surprised by his words for I never really needed 'luck' on my assignments. I am just a renowned assassin, nothing more. I am just talented, others would say.
I shook my head and sighed, walking away. The man's advice seemed trust-able so I decided to follow it. I snuck into the building and made my way through the halls and to the Third floor. Once there I looked up and down the hallways to find that the doors looked like that of doors in hotels. There were so many. I walked down the hallway looking for Door 156.
"153, 154, 155, Ahh! 156!" I muttered as I stood in front of the door, currently closed. It was weird. There were no guards in the area but Dazai did mention something about the organization knowing about an assassin. Shouldn't there be guards here? I sighed and slowly opened the door, poking my head in with caution.
I saw no one in the area and stepped inside. Bad idea. Before I knew it, the door closed and I was tackled to the floor by someone of much heavier weight than myself. I looked up and saw distinctive silver hair. A hard blow against my temple caused me to go into partial shock....
