Raynor woke up to Dale asleep in his arms and Dan sitting beside him in bed.
"Well, surprise. I thought you would up and leave," said Raynor as he sat up.
"You walked into that one. I am not you to do that," said Daner, and Raynor huffed.
They had breakfast quietly.
"If we are spending only a few more days here, I would rather we do it as a family. At least our son will have some memories to hold onto when we are a proper family," said Daner. Raynor sighed but nodded as he laid back pulling Dale over him hugging him close.
He looked at Dan.
"Come here"
Daner went without much protests and so they laid there, together.
"If I was not Raynor Almen, I would have stayed," said Raynor finally breaking the silence and he then pressed a kiss to Daner's forehead. Nothing was resolved but speaking their minds will hopefully help. Later that day, Raynor was just lounging with his family- letting his son read a story book to the both of them.
There was a knock on the door. Raynor pulled on a t-shirt and opened the door.
"There is an SOS from the Black Island. The water level is rising around it," said Sven rushing in.
"I am coming," said Raynor and looked around for his phone.
"You take Dale and stay with Babbo and Esket. If the water level rise by any chance, leave in the first ship out with all of them including Baba, no matter what he says," said Raynor and got out. He turned to look at them both once and cursed inwardly as he stepped back in and hugged his baby and pressed a soft kiss to Daner's hair. He only got so little time with them- barely a month. He has to contact Selma once he estimates the situation. If Black Island is in water, they are the next. They were flood ready , at least as ready as can be expected.
"Leave if Selma shows up before me. Yes? This can be the perfect cover for you both- lost during floods," he said softly so that only Daner can hear and then with one look at them, he turned and left. Sven gave a small nod and followed.
---------------------
Daner watched the man walk away but well, he has a lot to do. It was pandemonium. The necessary things were being moved to the ship owned by the family along with people but it started raining. Daner took a deep breath and took the list of things from Babbo.
"Please get Baba ready, also keep Dale near you. I will manage this," said Daner and then proceeded to help the evacuation of the den. At night, the first ship left with 200 people and many of their livelihoods on board including cattle. Another 50 left in their own boats and the likes. The elderly were moved first. Next day Esket went to collect the kids from the orphanage but came back with news that the children were already rescued by the Aldereons. More people were leaving and the rain is yet to go down. On top of that the water level kept rising in many places.
Daner was at his wits end because Dale is now crying for his Baba and uncle from whom they only heard once after they left. Daner was internally panicking and trying to soothe Dale when he heard raised voices coming from the hall.
"I am not coming. I will not leave my land like a coward. I will be the last to leave this island," said Baba vehemently.
"Please listen-
"Told you already," snapped Baba raising his hand to signal that Babbo should stop arguing.
"I am not going to stop today. If you don't want to leave, I understand. But you are fully aware that no one in this den will leave without you. It is not fair. Our sons are out there fighting for our people. Our job is to make that fight easier for them. To give them the assurance that we are safe. You in your pride is sitting here and trying to make it all about yourself is not fair. I am an omega and you have known that always. Is that why you refuse to listen to me?" asked Babbo. Everyone fell silent in the den. Baba was looking taken aback.
