Now, the first thing you need to understand before you start this journey is that these addictions do not define you. But just because they don't define you, that doesn't mean they're okay.
You need to want to break free from your addictions—the first step.
You might be at the place where you want to. You're thinking, "Blue Jay, I want to stop this. I just can't seem to do it." That's great. You're at the perfect place for this book.
But some of you might not want to stop. Some of you might be thinking, "But Blue Jay, my addictions, these things you say are bad, make me happy. They make me feel good. And they don't hurt anyone around me. Why should I stop?"
I understand, okay? This mindset is something I can relate to. I've been there.
But let me ask you something.
Are you really happy?
Is living like this, from one momentary high to the next, really making you happy?
Or is it leaving you empty?
Do you get that feeling in your gut where you know what you're doing is wrong, but you just can't stop?
My friends, it's important to understand that you are a slave to these addictions. You can't live without them. You might even work your life around them, just because, for a short time, they make you feel good.
Can you keep living like this? Do you really want to keep living like this? God did not create you to be a slave to pornography, or a slave to masterbation, or a slave to erotic literature or TV. He created you with a divine purpose and an innate worth. He created you in His image.
Yes, the God of the universe create you in His image.
And He created you for more than this.
While these addictions will temporarily satisfy the fleshly desires of your body, your soul will never be satisfied as long as you're filling your life up with this.
I want you to say something out loud for me. It might feel silly, but this is important.
Say, "I'm worth more."
Go on, say it.
"I'm worth more."
Take a second to think about those words.
You are a creation of God. You are a beautiful human being. You are the son or daughter of a King.
You're worth more than just being a slave to your addictions. You were made for more than this. And you deserve more than this.
This momentary, temporary, happiness you get from your addictions isn't what God created you for.
He made you for more.
You're worth more.
So I'm asking you, please, fight against the addictions enslaving you. Make the decision that you are going to fight.
I thought I made that decision several times before I actually started living it. I would say to God, "Just one more time. Then I'll stop." Or I would stop for a period of time and then fall right back into old patterns. I also didn't want to stop. I would take advantage of the fact that God forgave me for my addictions. I took advantage of His grace and continued doing wrong, asking for forgiveness, making empty promises, and then doing wrong again. Several times I realized I needed to stop, but I never made much of an effort to.
That's not the type of decision I want you to make.
I want you to really decide you're ready, and prepared to fight. Because you will have to fight to break free.
This isn't a decision I can make for you. It's something you have to make for yourself.
But realize you won't be fighting alone.
God will be there to help you. Lean on Him, and He will help you.
And I'm here too. Whatever you need, I'm here. If you need to vent, if you need someone to confide in, if you need someone who won't judge you for whatever you're going through, you have me and you have God.
Reading this book won't solve your problems, but I hope, I really hope, that it will help you and put you on the path for solving them yourself.
Remember, you're worth more than this temporary, materialistic happiness feeding into these addictions is giving you.
You're worth more.
