I am going to take you back to 14 century when the youngest son of King Robert III became King James I of Scotland in 1406.

King James I of Scotland was the youngest of three sons of King Robert III and his wife, Anabella Drummond.

King James I of Scotland becomes King of Scotland in 4 April 1406 and he marries Lady Joan Beaufort the only daughter of Lord John Beaufort, 1st Earl of Somerset who is the grandson of King Edward III of England through his fourth son, Prince John of Gaunt and his mistress, Lady Katherine Swynford (later his third wife.).

Lady Joan Beaufort is the great-granddaughter of King Edward III of England and he marries Lady Joan Beaufort and they were married on February 1424 and they had the following children:

Margaret Stewart, Princess of Scotland (1424–1445) married Prince Louis, Dauphin of Viennois (later King Louis XI of France)

Isabella Stewart, Princess of Scotland (1426–1494) married Francis I, Duke of Brittany

Mary Stewart, Countess of Buchan (c.1428-1465) married Wolfart VI van Borsselen

Joan of Scotland, Countess of Morton (c. 1428–1486) married James Douglas, 1st Earl of Morton

Alexander Stewart, Duke of Rothesay (born and died 1430); Twin of James

James II of Scotland (1430–1460)

Annabella Stewart, Princess of Scotland (c.1436-1509) married and divorced 1. Louis of Savoy, and then married and divorced 2. George Gordon, 2nd Earl of Huntly

Eleanor Stewart, Princess of Scotland (1433–1484) married Sigismund, Archduke of Austria.

King James I of Scotland was assassinated in Perth on 21 February 1437 and it was by his uncle, Walter Stewart, Earl of Atholl and his son, King James II and his only son, became King of Scotland in 21 February 1437 and his mother, Lady Joan Beaufort remarried 1439 to James Stewart, the Black Knight of Lorn and they had the following children: John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl

James Stewart, Earl of Buchan, d. 1499. Married 27 March 1459, to Margaret Ogilvy, daughter of Alexander Ogilvy of Auchterhouse.

Andrew Stewart, c. 1443–1501. The Bishop of Moray from 1483–1501.

Lord Alexander Charles Stuart was a direct descendant of King James I and Lady Joan Beaufort through their only son, King James II and Mary of Guelders and they had the following children: James III of Scotland (1451–1488).

Mary (May 1453-May 1488), who married first Thomas Boyd, 1st Earl of Arran, and secondly James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton. She became the mother of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran.

Alexander Stuart, Duke of Albany (c. 1454 - 1485).

Margaret, who married William Crichton, 3rd Lord Crichton of Auchingoul. She became the mother of Margaret Crichton and mother-in-law of George Leslie, 4th Earl of Rothes.
