Dawn POV
1 month later
It's been a month since Za went missing and it's been taking a toll on all of us. The house is always quiet and no one really comes out of their rooms during the day. I've been making sure that everyone is fed and is staying healthy. And I've also been packing the house up because Jah, Gabby, and Kayla got drafted which means we're gonna have to move as soon as possible. Don't get me wrong, I wanna find Za first, but as soon as we do find him, we need to move immediately.
We already bought a house in Phoenix and are ready to move in as soon as we find Za. I noticed that we didn't have anymore snacks and I was craving some Starbucks, so I decided to go to target. I made sure to grab everyone's certain snack and headed towards checkout, but a conversation makes me stop dead in my tracks.
"i feel like its time to get rid of him dee. i mean- its obvious elijah isnt looking for him. we might as well get it over with.""youre right. I jus thought he would've cared at least a little bit."
When I heard the name Dee I quickly pulled my hood over my head and made sure she couldn't see my face. I saw her and the man that was with her walk out of target and I made the quick decision to follow them. I made sure to keep my distance and as soon as I got in the car and pulled off behind them, I called Jah.

No listen. He's still with Dee. But babe when I was in the store, her and some man were talking about getting rid of him. I think they're going to kill him. Right now I'm following them but in case I need help, use my location and come to get us.Lifeline🔐💛
Baby are you fucking crazy?! Stop wherever you are right now! I'm on my way to you!43ver Ⓜ️ines
Do what I said. I love youI hung up the phone and continued to follow behind Dee's car. I drove a little ways behind them for about 30 minutes until we came to a rundown house in the middle of a clearing. I saw them park and get out, so I waited until they went inside to park and follow them. I know what I'm doing is dumb, but I want our baby back. I sent a prayer up to the God above and opened the front door. I walked in and shut the door behind me. There was no one in the living room so I made my way through the house. I looked in all the rooms but found no sign of anyone. I heard noises coming from upstairs so I headed towards the noise. The last door at the end of the hallway was the only one I hadn't checked yet, so I opened the door and what I saw immediately brought me to tears.
Z baby was in a literal dog cage, naked, with piss and feces. He had bruises and cuts all over his body and both of his eyes were swollen. I hurriedly opened the cage and picked him up. I noticed he was also ALOT lighter. I looked around the room for an exit and panicked when I heard Dee's voice coming my way. I saw a window but we were on the second story and I didn't want to hurt Za anymore than he already was. I then saw a closet so I hurriedly tried to fit me and Za in. It wasn't that big and it was packed with boxes but as I tried to get as far back as I could, I noticed another smaller, hidden door. Without thinking I opened it, got in, and closed it. I took off my hoodie and wrapped Za in it when I heard Dee's voice in the room."Babe what did you do with the little bastard?"
"Nothing, he was in the cage last time I saw him, why?" I heard a deep voice, I'm assuming the man that was with her, ask as he got closer.
"Shit. Go get the gun Robert! Now!"
I closed my eyes and tried to slow down my breathing but it didn't work. I feared I was going to get caught so I pushed Za behind a box in case Dee found us. I waited for the small door to open and for me to be yanked out by Dee, but as time passed, that never happened. I start to relax until I heard about four gunshots go off. The sound scared Za, so I picked him up and tried to shush him. I was crying myself because I thought it was the end for me. I was crying because I couldn't protect Za. My mother didn't raise me to be a little bitch so I wiped my face and prepared to make a run for it. I made sure Za was secured in my jacket and also listened for more gunshots.
I came from the little hiding space and peeked out of the closet. When I didn't see anyone, I headed straight towards the open window. Right before I could reach it, I felt an hand touch my shoulder. My first instinct was to protect Za at all costs, so I grabbed the person's hand twisted it until I heard a snap. The assailant screamed and when I realized their voice sounded familiar, I turned around to see Jah on the floor holding his arm.*********To be continued**********
