"What was I thinking?" I ask Austin as I lay face down on his couch. "I mean, who just shows up at someone's house like that?"
"Apparently you do," Austin laughs, sitting next to me. "Do you feel like you have closure?"
"I guess," I sigh, flipping over, "I just feel like we're not over yet. There's no way we can be. We had so much to offer."
"What will be," Austin says, "will be. Always remember that."
I'm brought back to a similar conversation I had a while ago with Dream.
"Then you have some stuff to figure out then," Dream says.
"What if.. What if it's too late?" I ask softly, more scared of the answer than asking the question.
"Listen, I'm not one to be all sappy, but if it's truly meant to be and its fate or whatever, then it will never be too late."
I sit for a moment, letting it all soak in.
"And when you do make a decision," he continues, "make sure it's the right one."
Maybe the world isn't done with us. Maybe we'll come back eventually and it won't be too late for second chances, we both know we would need one. But only time will tell on that one.
If only the world could give me some kind of hint.
If only the world could give me some kind of wake up call that we're meant to be together, instead of putting me through this pain.
"You're right," I sigh, "thanks for letting me rant."
"Anytime," he shrugs, "so are you still planning on meeting up with Karl?"
"Yeah," I say, getting excited just by him mentioning it, "We're supposed to meet up in like two days. He's driving down tomorrow night. I can't wait for you guys to meet."
Austin and I have become very good friends ever since that one random call. I'm mad at myself that I ever let us drift apart, but it doesn't matter because we're friends now.
"Yeah, I'm excited to meet him too," he smiles, getting up to grab something from the kitchen, "He seems like a cool person."
"He really is," I say as I look down at my phone. An unknown number is calling. I decline the call. It's probably spam.
"You want a water?" Austin asks.
My phone rings again. Weird. Usually spam doesn't call twice. "What? Oh, I'm good, thanks though."
He disappears into the kitchen. I answer the phone call.
"Hello? I say.
"Hi, this is the Zooner Medical Hospital. May I speak to y/n l/n?" A high pitched voice asks.
I furrow my brow. I haven't been to the doctor in a while, so there's nothing they would need to call me for.
Austin walks into the room. He sees my face and mouths, "Is everything okay?"
I shrug, truly not knowing the answer.
"This is she," I answer. My heart beats a little faster. What could be wrong?
"We're calling about Alexis (last name)," the voice replies, "We need you to come to the hospital. There's been an accident."
I almost drop my phone.
No no no.
