I serve the food and water to Markus. When he asks who I am, I tell him my name's Violet.
"Pretty," he says through mouthfuls of hover burger, "and I guess it comes from that?" He nods towards the color of the robot.
"Yeah," I say. "So how did Skeleton King get you?"
"Well," Markus answers, "I'm just walking down the street to a hang out at Quinn's Creek, when these big goopy things come out of nowhere, and wham! I'm shoved into this big arrow thing, and I hear this guy laugh really creepy and say, 'From what I've learned, you will be perfect bait for our little Siren.'"
"He's coming after me again," I whisper. My voice gets louder as I stand up and pace around angrily. "I can't believe it! Go on and kidnap me and brainwash me and all that junk and now using innocent people as bait? That little idiot is gonna be a heap of snapped bones when I get through with him! Why, I outta..."
"Brainwash? Kidnap?" Markus says. Uh-oh. "What is up with you all?"
"Oh, uh..." I say. Suddenly, the hatch opens and the Hyper Force runs in. Phew, saved by the monkeys. How many people get to say that in their lives?
Jinmay walks in and we join up with the team to discuss battle plans. Markus sees Jinmay.
"She's cute," he says. I feel like I just got punched in the chest. Chiro steps in front of Jinmay and glares at Markus.
"Sorry, she's taken," Chiro growls. Markus holds up his hands.
"Whoops, my bad. I promise if I'd have known I wouldn't have said anything!"
Chiro looks like he's about to start a fight when I break in. "He's telling the truth! Trust me on this one," I say. He still looks like he's fuming.
I grab Chiro's ear and drag him into another room, slamming the door shut.
"Listen here, Monkey Boy, the kid's got answers. He could be a clue to what Skeleton King's planning next. Smash his face and I. Will. Obliterate you. Understand?" He nods. Then, a sly grin slides across his face.
"Chelsea's got a little crush..." he mutters under his breath.
"Shut up!" I hiss, stomping out.
I have to admit that the real me would be blushing until I looked like a tomato, though.
