This story has a chapter titled '*' after every numbered chapter. Although these are flashbacks, it is not necessarily Adrien's memories resurfacing. Also, the chapters titled with an asterisk, or at least most of them, don't have the memories in order of when they occured. Please keep this in mind.
I would also like to state that in this story, if you read the summary, you know that there's a girl named Emma. Emma doesn't talk in most of the flashbacks despite being 6 months to 1-year-old. Because of slight hearing loss she has difficulty with speech and language development. While it is mentioned in the book, I have a feeling someone will ask in the comments why she doesn't appear to speak like a normal child her age.
