My eyes are dancing behind my lids and the ringing in my ear dulls out the alarms vibrating the earth beneath my cheek.

Glass is scratching at my palms when I dare to move. I'm trying to lift my head but the sky is upside down and lights are flashing, burning at my pupils.

I'm gasping out her name but I can't even hear my own voice and I wonder if I'm actually even moving my lips.

The world is spinning as I dig my nails into the concrete, pushing myself up. I scream with the fire burning threw my thigh.

I look down and a long shard of shrapnel is sticking out of my jeans and I realise I'm lying in a pool of my own blood.

My shaky hand hovers over the wound and I feel sobs break threw my throat.

I look up and I'm ready to yell for help when I see her lying there. Her head is turned in my direction but there is nothing behind her eyes.

She's dead.
