How betraying it is for you to come home to such a scene? Your husband, your protector, the love of your life balls deep in your best friend.Having gotten off work early, you waltzed into the house expecting for no one else to be home. You had planned to start dinner, freshen up, light some candles..... do some preparation tasks for when he got home.
How disheartening is it for you to see such a thing on the day before your four year anniversary?
Your plans were quickly forgotten as you heard the sound of the floorboards creaking upstairs.
Thinking that someone had broken in, you'd grabbed the gun from one of the drawers in the kitchen. You had called your husband, hoping that he wouldn't be too busy at work to answer. How vindictive you must feel standing in the room with these people.
You didn't find an intruder. No.
You found people that you knew.... in positions that you were all too familiar with. After all, it's those that put his child into you in the first place.
They spilled the seed that embedded itself into your walls.
Both parties startled at the sight of you, covering their naked bodies with blankets and pillows. They cried and pleaded, insisting that it was a mistake, begging you to forgive them. On their hands and knees, they were at your feet for this.
He begged you not to leave; he needed you. He loved you. And she, begged you not to tell her fiancé. They were to be married soon. You wouldn't want to ruin that for your best friend... right?
So you let it go.
For the past month, you've pretended that everything was fine. You've pretended that you hadn't cried for hours at a time the first week.
Your husband stayed home; that 'sudden project' that he had been working on for two weeks for the boss now disappearing into thin air. The 'traffic' suddenly no longer existing at all.
Funny how that works.
It has been such an exhausting month, what with you hitting the six month mark of your pregnancy. Your best friend has been more in contact with you than ever. As her Maid of Honor, she wants you to be apart of everything. She wants you to know just how much she values your friendship.
So when the night before her wedding comes, of course you're excited for her and her fiancé. Seated at a table for the rehearsal dinner, and a more private gathering for her friends and family, you listen to her speak to everyone in the room, expressing her overflowing gratitude.
Your husband squeezes your hand as he sits in the chair next to you. Looking over, you see his eyebrows pulled together in a concerned expression with a head tilt.
