Chapter 17: Shivers

● Kate ●

We had just won our sixth game in the season last night, and to celebrate, the whole team went out to a bar, but I simply stated that I was too tired to party.

When Ky saw my reaction, he too, had said he had a meeting to go to for the NY Rangers corporation owners. The team thought that he was a little crazy to bail out on several drinks provided by the bartenders, but he just walked out, saying goodnight and good game to everyone.

I was waiting outside when he came out and we grinned at each other. For the past two weeks, we had been seeing each other secretly. And before practice, he would stay behind, telling the other teammates to go on, and we would steal discreet and secret kisses from each other.

I had to admit, Ky made me very happy. He made me want to come back for more, but that's all it was. A casual, very friendly relationship with lots of dinners, sex, and secret visits.

Therapy was going well. My therapist, Dr. Shirley McKinnon, was easy going and not the uptight, glasses-wearing, notepad holding boss that I thought she was.

She was more like a woman that was stuck in the '70's...not that I minded. She would always walk in, wearing some flower printed bell bottoms... always smelling of patchouli and incense.

"You look really nice tonight..." Ky wrapped his arms around my waist and left trailed of kisses along my jawline.

I rolled my eyes. "I'm in a green shirt five sizes too big and sweats."

He chuckled and looked down at me. "But your ass looks good in them." He gave my butt a little squeeze.

"Ky!" I whispered angrily. "Someone's going to see us!"

He sighed and ran his finger along my face, sending chill along my spine.

"Fine, let's go back to my place."

"So," Coach bit into his burger, "how's therapy?"

I slowly chewed and nodded my head. I was currently having a nice lunch with the coach. I'm pretty sure I knew what he wanted to talk about.

"It's better than I thought. Dr. McKinnon's pretty helpful."

"Good...good. Is it helping so far?"

I shrugged. "Not real sure. I mean, we do all these exercises like deep breathing and stuff, it's kind of like she's a yoga teacher instead of a therapist." I chuckled.

"What else do you do?"

I thought. "We express a lot of feelings...like she'll say something that'll definitely piss me off and tell me to control it."

"Huh," Coach said, "did it work?"

"Nope."

"Ah," he waved his finger up and down at me, "there's the problem. You need to believe that it'll work."

I stared at him blankly. "I never said I didn't believe..."

"I see it in your eyes." he pointed out.

I scoffed. "You see it in my eyes? You're starting to sound like the therapist."

He laughed on and ate the rest of his burger.

When he finished, he wiped his mouth with a napkin and rested his arms on the table. "I want to talk to you about your arrest, Kate. And I want to know that you won't run out on me."

Looking down at my fingers, I pursed my lips and sighed. "I suppose I don't really have a choice."

"You'll always have a choice, Kate. You just need to learn how to handle your past."

"Handle my past? Don't you think I'm already handling enough things?!" I said.

Including Ky's dick.

Ignoring the comment and blushing slightly, I focused my attention on Coach.

"Look, I know that therapy was a big leap for you, considering the fact that your first experience didn't work out to well...but we still need to talk about it."

I shrunk down in my seat, sulking like a little child. "Why?"

"You're past files are locked away safely, but you never know when one of those sneaky little reporters will look you up and dig deep into your past, finding the truth.

"Now, when that happens," he saw me flinch a bit, "but it most likely won't happen, we'll hire a PR for you and have them fix it up the best they can, alright?"

I thought it over. A publicist, telling me what to do or not do for that whole week or month or maybe even a year that I have to get them to cover up everything about my past.

Exhaling deeply with lazy lips, I gave him a sad smile. "Alright."

Grinning, he patted me on the back and got up to pay the check.

This should be interesting.
