"You are my sunshine my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grey" Donna's voice echoed through the TARDIS as the Doctor made them both tea in the kitchen. The Doctor smiled and walked through the halls to meet Donna in the console room, she sat on the chair by the railings, her eyes closed as she sang. "You'll never know dear, how much I love you, ," the TARDIS hummed in the background, seemingly in tune with Donna's voice.
The Doctor coughed, gently nudging Donna's shoulder to let her know he was back with their tea and a small plate of biscuits that were precariously balanced on the crease of his elbow. Donna opened her eyes and gave her spaceman a brilliant smile, before gently taking the mug he offered to her; her favourite one, a large light blue mug with the words "WORLDS BEST GINGER" in bold black lettering. The Doctor gave Donna his infamous grin and say down next to her, nibbling at the biscuits on the plate between them. "Please don't take my sunshine away..." Donna finished, before quietly drinking her tea.
"The others have been night, dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamt I held you in my arms," Donna sung quietly, laying next to the Doctor, his head lay on her chest as he listened to her singular, melodic heart, it seemed to beat in time with the song coming out of her mouth. Their song, that's what Donna had said when he asked about it. "When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken," Donna's voice lulled the Doctor into drifting into sleep, it seemed she was always there when he was exhausted to help him shut down, even if it was only for a few hours.
There was something about Donna, beautiful, brilliant, ginger Donna, that made him feel at ease, even in the most horrific situations. "So I hung my head, and I cried," was the last thing the Doctor heard before finally falling to sleep. Donna looked down at her spaceman and smiled, her hand gently stroking his hair.
The Doctor stared in horror as Donna pushed him to the floor, his mouth was unable to make any noise as his ginger companion was hit by a shock wave coursing through her veins, the Dalek had aimed for him, but Donna has sacrificed her single human life for him. The Doctor screamed silently, watching in horror as the woman he cared so deeply for fell to the ground, her ginger locks falling gracefully around her head, like a sea of fire.
The Doctor picked Donna up, cradling her head to his chest, hoping to soothe her with the sound of his hearts. Donna's sea green eyes fluttered open, looking into his, her eyes were getting cloudier by the second, but she smiled. She smiled as if nothing was happening, like this was all a joke, as of she knew this would calm him down. Which it did. "I'll always love you and-" she was cut off by a rattling cough piercing her body, "and make you happy," the Doctor's eyes watered, the tears falling onto Donna's porcelain skin, he began to sing to make up for her loss of voice.
"If only you will say the same, but if you- you leave me to love another, you'll regret it one day," sobs overtook him as Donna reached up to touch his face, "you'll never know dear, how much I love you," she whispered, her eyes closing shut, eyelashes fanning over her cheeks. "Please don't take my sunshine away" the Doctor finished, pulling Donna's lifeless body as close to his body as he could.
The skies turned grey and started to cry, in mourning for the wonderful woman that died.
