Narcissa Malfoy
I was woken up by shouts that day. Really loud shouts.
"DRACO ! Come back here, you little bastard-" yelled Hecie from the hallway but was interrupted by his brother.
"Oh yeah ? Little bastard, is it now ? No more Dray, I see..."
"Not when you're acting like a bloody sociopath."
"Sociopath ? You must be joking, right ? You're the freaking sociopath, Hekate."
They never fought like they did this day. Sometimes they argued a little but most of the time it meant nothing, some yells were heard, for a day maybe two and everything became calmer on the third day, because it was how they worked, two days was the maximum they could bare without talking to one another. I knew their current fight was different, it was the fourth day. Tonight was Christmas Eve, and my children were fighting nonstop since they came back from Hogwarts.
December 21st, 1996 : Day 1
Silence, this old friend of mine, left the house the very minute my children took a step on the large manor. First of all, Silence was the consequence of my loneliness. Second, because they haven't stopped fighting for a minute.
Draco seemed angry at Hecie for a blurred reason and Hecie seemed annoyed by every word that left Draco's mouth. Even the very unimportant details were a reason to fight.
They were there for only a few hours and the atmosphere was atrocious, deadly. Sitting on the sofas of the living room, they were avoiding any eye contact. One was on the left side of the black leather couch, the other was on the right side. And so Silence was back inside the wall of the Malfoy Manor again.
"Loves, what do you think of a cup of tea ?" I said, trying to fill the void.
"Yes, please, Mother," answered Hecie, followed by a growl from his brother. "What again ?" she asked him.
No response, he just kept on staring at the fireplace on his right.
"Draco, you can't keep acting like a prat, you know ?"
"Oh, can't I ? Watch me, Hekate. Watch me transforming into someone you hate, does it ring a bell to you ? We'll be even then, how nice."
"Fuck you, Draco."
I took my way to the kitchen. I didn't want to be in the middle of their fight but it was too much to take, so before leaving, I turned to face them.
"I've been waiting for both of you to return, you know. I've been waiting to hear your voices shouting in the estate, again. But not in that way, I wanted to hear your laugh, I wanted to hear you teasing the other and lost my mind in your stories from Hogwarts. I've been crying since the day you jumped on that train. I've been trying to cope with loneliness and silence for four months. I'm all by myself here. There's no one to comfort me, there's nobody to help me get through the day. I don't talk, I don't laugh, I don't live. Your Father is away, so are you. I'm alone and now you're here, just in front of me. My little ones that I missed every bloody second. And for what ? For you to ruin the few days we have together. To spend every moment together by growling or insulting one another. I know the time is tough, but you're supposed to help each other, not tear each other down. This is not how I raised you and if you want to spend the rest of the holiday like that, I would rather have you locked in your bedrooms trying to ignore every bloody human being of this household."
