Violet
A series of knocks sounded at the wall, their code. She opened the window, Sunny tumbling in with the grace of a new-born duckling.
"Hey Sunny, what's up?"
"I wanted to check on you, with all that's happening."
"Thank you, they're not here right now. They're at the lawyers."
Sunny sat beside her on the bed. "Is everything going well, for you?"
"I think so. I've gotten more used to it. Things will be much calmer after the divorce."
"You're really brave Vi, if you ever need to talk, you know I'm always willing to listen."
"I know Sunny, you're the best."
She let herself be enveloped in a hug, Sunny holding onto her so tight, she thought she'd disappear if she let go. She pulled away with a watery smile.
"So, what are you watching?"
"Swan Lake."
"The Barbie version or..."
"The Royal Ballet version, I want to get into the role and practice as much as I can."
"You're so good though, I don't think I've ever seen you miss a step."
"You're too kind, it's all good practice."
Sunny gave her a knowing smile. "About practice, how are things going with you and your mystery girl?"
"Which mystery girl?"
"How many do you have? Really, Vi!"
Violet giggled. "Well, if you're talking about the pianist, it's all good, she really helps me practice."
"Have you seen her yet, in person?"
"Not yet. I don't think I will either."
"But why, I'm sure you want to. You do like her don't you."
"Well yes, but it's complicated isn't it. We only write letters, and we never meet."
"I guess. Do you want to meet her?"
Violet paused, thinking about it. She'd wanted to meet her since the first reply but then she was too nervous. A long time had passed since then though.
"I think I do. What if she doesn't want to meet me?"
"Who wouldn't?"
"I can think of many people."
Sunny frowned but then pointed at the laptop. "Do you think you could trade this for the Barbie version. I could swear it was your favourite movie at some point."
Violet was already typing. "Sure."

Bella put her hand on her arm. "Violet, you look very nervous. Are you okay?"
Violet looked up. "I'm fine, I was just lost in thought."
"Are you sure, do you want me to walk you home or something."
"I'm fine, Bella, just some things going on at home."
"Oh, you know I'm here if you need anything."
"Careful, you're starting to make me seem like a damsel in distress."
"Well, I am a prince."
"In a ballet. Bye B."
Bella waved. "Bye Vi."
She waved back turning up the corridor and going into the practice room. Opening her bag, she took out the letter reading it over again.
