Sorry that this chapter is sort of short. It was never meant to be long. It is here to set up the first day of school and the whole story. The next chapter will be longer. Also here is a trigger warning for the whole story. Trevor isn't actually a great dad. He's a horrible drunk and abusive man. So, again here is a trigger warning for the whole story. It does get dark.
Of course my dad would get a new job in a new state a few weeks before the start of my junior year of high school. I mean he shouldn't have shown up drunk to his other job.
My mom was able to just meet the sign ups for tryouts for volleyball. Volleyball is my escape from my dad. I don't know why my mom refuses to leave him.
"Nicole let's go. You're going to be late to tryouts." Mom, Isabella Harper, the tall curvy woman with her brown eyes and tan skin. Isabella wasn't even my biological mom. She's just the only mom I've ever known. My dad had an affair with my biological mom, and well they had me. When I was born my dad fought for full custody and got it. Even though sometimes he definitely regrets it.
My dad, Trevor Harper, he was a tall burly man. Brown eyes, white skin. My biological mom was black, that's all I know of her. Not even a name. Leaving me with my light dark skin, brown eyes, my hair color I got from my mom, was a wavy brunette color.
"Coming Mami." I open my door heading downstairs. "Mija, darse prisa!" (Daughter, hurry up!) "No me apures Mami!" (Don't rush me mom!) I come running down the stairs grabbing my volleyball bag on the way out the door. Isabella right behind me.
On the way to tryout my leg was shaking. "Mija, stop worrying, you're are going to be just fine." Mom smiles softly when she pulls up to the school. "Go show this prestigious school that you deserve to be here." I let out a nervous laugh getting out of the car heading into the school.
I walk in the front door looking around at the lobby of this school. Now I see why it costs so much money to come here. "You lost?" I hear a voice ask from my left. I look up to see a very pretty brunette with green eyes. "I'm looking for the gym." "You're in luck. I'm heading that way." I smile following the girl in the direction of the gym.
"What's your name?" "Nicole." "Well Nicole, I'm Lizzie." Lizzie smiles pointing to the gym. "Well here's the gym." "Thank you."
I head into the gym to start getting my volleyball shoes on. When I take my sweatpants off the gash my dad gave me the other night from throwing his scotch glass at the wall next to me, shattering and cutting my skin on full display. I pull up my midcalf socks fast enough that way no one sees it.
I stand up only to walk straight into Lizzie, "I'm so sorry."
"You're good Nic." She chuckles with a soft smile glancing at the ground with a soft blush. "Nic... Why is your sock red?"
"What?" I blurt out looking at my sock noticing that my sock had started to turn red where the cut was. "Shit." I mutter heading in the direction of the bathroom I saw on the walk over here. It's still a little raw, I should've known the little jostle from the socks would open it.
That's their first meeting, sorry it was short once again. The next chapter is the first day of school. This is a slow burn, not a simmer, but a slow burn. The chapter length will get longer. This one just needed to be short, since it was a just a set up.
