Breakfast remained untouched on the kitchen counter, his blood running together with the maple syrup that topped her pancakes. It had soaked through her top too—warm on her neck, cold on her hands. She could taste the weight of it on her tongue—feel it in her hair.
She knelt by his body, glared into the new smile she had cut across his throat then wedged a knife between his ribs. "This was my favorite sweater, you asshole."
