"Your disappearing.. right in front of me-" His voice wavers and he speaks so quietly you barely heard him.
His words hit you like a train. He knew.

"I-I.. Tom-" You stuttered, trying to explain yourself.
"Your mom.. she told me when we started dating, about.. your p-past." He chocked back a sob. "You should have told me you were feeling like this.. I- I could've helped."
"I'm so sorry... I just wanted to be beautiful."
"You are beautiful." Tom pleaded.

He was begging for you to see yourself for who you truly were. His gorgeous, funny and intellectually amazing girlfriend. But you were blind to all that.

"Your weight does not define you, darling."
"But it does."
"W-What?" Tom was now confused. "Who made you feel like this? Oh god.. please don't say I did this."
He covered his mouth with his hand, hiding his quivering lip, silently praying that he hadn't caused this for you.
You wrapped your arms around him and he nuzzled his face into your neck.
"It could never be you." You whisper soothingly.
He pulls back and rests himself against the headboard.
"Then.. who?"

You took a deep breath and opened the bottom drawer of your dresser, hesitating to look at it again. Bravely, you picked up the pile of magazine headlines you had cut out and used as "motivation" for your weight loss.

Tom's eyes grew wide as he flicked through all the upsetting headlines. How on earth anyone would think this was okay... he was speechless.
"Baby.. I-" He began but found himself struggling for words. "Where did you find these??"
"They're at the local shop... the newspapers and magazines... they all hurt me in a different way than the other... and I couldn't take it anymore. So I took matters into my own hands."
"We need to get you help, sweetheart. You and I both know this isn't healthy."
"They're going to talk about my body no matter what I do... surely it's better if I know I look good?"
"But... darling, it's a mental illness. It's serious and it will destroy you." His tone changed, he seemed desperate for you to listen to him, to see reason.
"Tom.." You were unconvinced.
"You know yourself.. that no matter how much you loose it won't feel like enough. And I don't want you to get to that point. To make yourself more sick. I can't lose you."

Tom sniffled, trying his best to stay strong for you. He lay your head on his chest and let you talk to him all night. He listening to every word tentively, reassuring you when necessary that you were worthy and beautiful as you were. He kept trying to convince you to see the doctor but you always had an answer to why you shouldn't.

You had argued against him asking you to get help until you fell asleep, by which point the sun had rose again. And as heavy as his heart was for you, he wasn't going to sit and watch you deteriorate infront of him. He picked up his phone and made an appointment for you later in the afternoon. He made it very clear on the phone that he wanted an Eating Disorder specialist. He then called your Mother, and informed her of your relapse, asking her to be subtle and wait for you to tell her before mentioning anything. He promised her he would care for you.

And he did. He went with you to said appointment and held your hand as you cried your heart out in the doctors chair, repeating everything you had told Tom last night. The doctor had recommended therapist to which Tom called straight away. He helped you arrange meetings with support workers and nutritionists.

Slowly, you began to gain the weight back, and Tom did everything in his power to make you feel confident and sexy in your own body. He helped you love yourself for who you were.
And for that, you would be eternally grateful.
