Trigger warning; Mentions of suicide attempt, self-harm and low mood.
Summary: Tom's wife has suffered from depression for a long time now. Tom got her help and was overwhelmed with emotion on the day he came home to hear her singing again.🤍
"Hello. I'm here to collect a prescription for Mrs Hiddleston?" Tom said to the guy at the counter.
"No problem, sir. Just one moment."Tom had urged his wife to get help weeks ago after watched her suffer through nearly a year of depression. When she began to harm herself back in August, he knew that he had to be cruel to be kind. He signed her up for therapies and workshops, helped her get dressed in the morning and told her she had to be the one responsible to walking Bobby. Anything to get her out of bed and getting help.
The pharmacist handed over a small paper bag to Tom and wished him a good day. Tom nodded in appreciation and walked back to his shared home.
The brisk January wind blew through his curly hair, leaving it messy utop his head. When he opened the front door, he called out for her.
"Darling! I have your new medicine!"The first time they visited her GP. His advice was unhelpful and Tom decided to not take her back to him. The second doctors appointment, was made with a mental health professional. His wife didn't speak much, but the cuts on her arms provided the Doctor with enough information, so he put forth a prescription for anti-depressants. Only 20mg to start with, and a follow-up appointment for 3 weeks later.
"What've they gave me this time?" She said solemnly, walking slowly towards her husband.
"Highest dose this time." Tom sighed as he placed the bag on the kitchen counter, pulling in his wife from behind and holding her close to him.
He rested his chin on her head.
"My love.. I wish I could take your pain away." He said, running his hands over the bandages coating her wrists to her elbows.
"I'm sorry." She muttered.
"No need to be sorry. It's not your fault remember."Her first suicide attempt hit Tom so hard it nearly knocked him over. It was the worst day of his life by far, and he vowed to never let it happen again. Her family insisted she came home to them, until she was better, but she wanted Tom.
He promised her, he would not leave."I'm gonna go change. Cover up my arms." She wriggled free from his hold and his heart sunk deeper as he watched her walk away.
January dragged in. The same upsetting atmosphere routine. Tom tried his best to stay positive. She was down almost everyday. Then things started to look up. The next month was like a totally different person. She was doing things throughout the day. Nothing big, but Tom still celebrated the small stuff. She hadn't suffered a relapse either, which made Tom extremely proud.
Then something happened on March 16th.
Tom walked in the front door with his wife's therapist. She had been feeling a little under the weather these past couple days and Tom wanted to be sure it wasn't mental health related, so he rang her therapist. When the middle-aged woman told him she wasn't in office anymore, he arranged to bring her to their home.
Tom walked into the hallway, and hung up the Dr's coat, showing her into the kitchen. But he stopped.
A beautiful voice echoed across the tiles and the floors, sending the best kind of chills down his neck. She sang loudly to her favourite songs, stirring a pot of spaghetti. Tom stood still. The sight brought him to tears as slowly walked towards her. She turned round, hair flowing perfectly in the air and wrapped her hands around his neck, serenading him.
Tom looked back to the therapist, who simply nodded and showed herself out, leaving the couple be.
Tom swayed them in a slow-dance fashion as she sang, grateful to be hearing her voice. The voice of an angel. She hit every note perfectly, amazing him with every riff. And when the song ended, he leaned in for a passionate, gentle kiss.
"You have no idea how happy I am right now." He whispered to her.
"I love you, Tom. Thank you for not giving up on me."He held her small hands in his and stared deeply into her eyes. His hands wandered up her arms, over the dark red scars and caressed her shoulders, rubbing them.
"I will never give up on you."
