Izuku always enjoyed reading a good book. Whenever Kacchan had beat him up or insulted his dream,he could immerse himself in whatever world he wanted and forget reality. He especially enjoyed reading stories about heros. And not the heros he heard about in the news all the time. No,he enjoyed the stories about heros who started from nothing and ended up becoming something great. His favorite was the legend of the Goddesses Chosen Hero.
The reason he liked it so much is that none of the heros in that series were looking to become a hero. They were normal people living normal lives who got caught up in the conflict. Izuku especially enjoyed the story of the Hero of the Winds. He wasn't necessarily chosen to be the destined hero, but he made his own destiny. He took fate into his own hands and succeeded.
On Izuku's last day of middle school,he woke up gasping,a look of complete fear on his face. He couldn't get the image of that...thing out of his head. He didn't really know how to describe what he had seen. He shook his head to clear his mind. He could smell what his mom made for breakfast, and he smiled. Katsudon! He got dressed and exited the room, not noticing the faint mark appearing on his right hand.
After eating as much katsudon as he could(which was admittedly a lot),he started heading to school. As he walked,he couldn't help but think back about the nightmare he'd had. He was interrupted when about halfway to school,he paused to watch as a "villain attack" occurred. While he did appreciate the chance to see Kamui Woods in action,he didn't really think the "villains" crime, stealing someone's purse, warranted this much attention.
As he continued walking, his mind wandered back to the nightmare. It had started out rather odd,all things considered. He was standing in front of a really large tree,so large in fact it took up a majority of his field of vision. It appeared to have a face carved into its bark, one of an aged old man. Over the top of the trees branches,a bright light began shining, blinding in its intensity.
As he covered his eyes,a voice echoed through the space Izuku was in. "Hero,a great evil approaches this land, intent on destroying the peace that has been so carefully cultivated. If he is not stopped, then surely the world shall be doomed. Once you awaken, find the hidden temple, and follow the instructions given. We have faith in you,Hero."
Izuku's vision darkens as the voice finishes speaking. When he opens his eyes again,he finds himself standing in what appears to be a cave, the roof crumbling above him. He looks down and finds himself clothed in the green hat and tunic of the Hero. He looks up when he hears an animalistic grunt coming from above him.
His eyes widen in shock at the monstrosity before him,he can't even tell what it is supposed to be.
As the monster looked down on him, that was when he jolted awake. He shivers when remembering the soul crushing terror he felt, while also wondering why he was wearing the green tunic. He knew he imagined himself in the role a lot,but he'd never had that vivid a dream before, nor had he ever felt fear during them. They usually gave him a feeling that was only eclipsed by eating his moms katsudon. This one however filled him with pure and unbridled terror.
He stopped and stared at the alley across from him when he heard shuffling noises coming from it. He saw an odd...mist? At least he assumed it was mist. It held no definitive shape and moved around a lot. He was about to leave and continue on his way to school, when the mist(?) seemed to become slightly more solid and started floating out of the alley. Izuku was once again about to leave, but before he could he felt an odd tugging sensation coming from the direction the mist had gone. He turned and found it floating a few feet in front of him, waiting for him to follow.
Izuku knew he was going to be in so much trouble once he made it to school, but for some reason he felt he had to follow the mist. So he did,for a very long time. By the time the mist had finally stopped, the sun was starting to go down and Izuku was beginning to regret ever following it. His mom must be worried sick about him. He was going to get scolded for sure.
The mist had stopped in front of a hole, big enough for one man to fit through. It had a rickety old ladder going down it,and Izuku couldn't see the bottom. The mist seemed to "stare" at him for a second before floating down the hole. Izuku sighed once he again realized he'd be following it. "Welp, here we go."
It took Izuku a while to reach the bottom, and when he did he found himself at the entrance to a tunnel. The mist was floating at the entrance, but as soon as he touched the ground it started moving down the tunnel. "You've got to be kidding me." Izuku trudged down the tunnel, his favorite red shoes getting covered in mud and dirt along the way. "Come on,are you kidding me?" He sighed before continuing. He followed the mist for what seemed like hours, taking short breaks every now and then to rest.
Once he exited the tunnel,he found himself in a large cave,at the center stood a magnificent temple, worn down with age. It must have been amazing to see at it's peak. He suddenly remembered what the voice from his dream had said. '"Once you awaken, find the hidden temple, and follow the instructions given."' Izuku began to wonder if his nightmare wasn't a simple dream he could disregard anymore.
It was at this precise moment the mark on his hand lit up,illuminating the entire cave. Izuku hissed in pain as this happened,it felt like when you touch a hot pan, only much, much worse! Once the mark stopped,he looked up again. What had previously been a dank, dark ruin was now a lit up,slightly less broken ruin. Izuku stood stock still, wondering what crazy event was gonna happen next.
Nothing happened,so Izuku cautiously began approaching the temple. The entrance had large doors carved out of what appeared to be marble, with inscriptions in a language Izuku couldn't quite make out. They seemed familiar though,he just couldn't place where he had seen them before. When he touched the door, his mark reacted again. It didn't hurt this time, but it did start glowing again,to a lesser extent then before. The doors slowly slid open, grinding against the stone of the cave.
Izuku walked into the temple, his curiosity overweighing his caution. The moment he entered the temple completely, the doors shut behind him. He turned to see if he could find another way out,but there wasn't any. He turned around again, but saw the same mist that had led him here. It slowly began to take shape,a rather tall man, dressed in what you would expect a knight to wear. His armor was odd to Izuku,he had never seen this type of armor in his history books.
The man also seemed to be floating off the ground by a few inches, and he was surrounded by small green flames. The man pointed to a rack of swords that Izuku was sure wasn't there before, and then back to Izuku. Izuku grabbed the sword as instructed and waited.
