Chapter 12

Eric's POV

I turned around, ready to pounce and saw my beta, Lucas, standing behind me in his wolf form. His wolf has rusty colored fur, brown eyes, and he hasn't found his mate yet. "What the heck, Lucas. I could have killed you. Warn me next time would ya." I told him as I rolled my eyes at his stupidness. Lucas is my best friend and the son of my fathers beta. "How many hunters are left?" I asked him as I looked to see ho badly injured he is.

"There are about one hundred left," he answered.

"How many hunters were there when they first arrived?"

"There were about two hundred and fifty."

"If our pack survives this we need to start training harder," I told him as I thought about how unprepared we were for this battle. I thought we were better prepared for something like this but apparently not. "How is the pack holding up?" i asked him.

"There are a few dead, a few severely injured, and the rest have minor injuries."

"Ok, have they advanced toward the house?"

"No, not yet."

"Ok, good, keep it that way." I told him in my alpha command. The thought of the hunters getting to Kai is pissing my wolf off. I saw Lucas's eyes widen in surprise and his arm raise slightly as if to point at something. Before he could say anything to actually point at something before he fell on the ground with a dart in his neck. I turned around and saw Elliot standing behind me with a dart gun in his hand pointed at Lucas.

"Now that we're alone lets sit and have a little chat. Maybe we can even go for a bite of food. Hey, maybe that little mate of yours can come along, but she is kind of a bitch," he told me as he started chuckling.

That pissed my wolf off. He should not have called my mate a bitch. I shifted into my wolf and pounced at the guy. I bit into his leg causing him to scream in agony which made my wolf smile. I let go of his leg and pounced on him. As I went to rip his throat out I felt a silver bullet rip through my abdomen making me howl in agony.

"I hope you have fun at your pretty little mates funeral," He told me as he pushed my body off of him and onto my side and started walking off towards her house. This got my blood boiling. I got up with what little strength I could muster, jumped on his back, and ripped out the back of his throat, killing him instantly, all in one move. I collapsed back onto the ground and lay there watching as his body collapsed to the ground and blood gushed out of his neck like a fountain. It started spraying on my body as I lay there but there was nothing I could do. I couldn't heal properly with the silver bullet still in the wound and I was slowly bleeding out. My vision started going black and my eyes started closing as fought to keep them open. 'I love you kai, stay safe' I thought as I saw a pair of shoes coming towards me right before I blacked out.

Eric's POV

'What the heck?' I thought to myself as I felt someone rubbing my arm up and down. I slowly opened my eyes to see the pack sl*t, Brittany. Her face looked like a child had drawn on it with crayons. "What are you doing here?" I asked her as I jerked my arm away.

"I'm your mate, silly," She told me as she grabbed my hand and interlocked our fingers.

"What? I don't remember you ever being your mate," and I don't feel any sparks, but maybe my wolf just hasn't come back completely yet.

"That's okay, the doctor said you might have some memory loss. We found out that we were mates a few weeks ago. Elliot Tyler attacked our pack but you fought him and killed him, but he shot you with a silver bullet which got you put in here," she told me in her high pitched voice.

"How long have I been out?"

"A few days,"

"I need to get back to the pack," I told her as I got up. We were at the pack hospital right beside the pack house.

"Will I see you tonight?" She asked me as she followed me down the corridor.

"Uhhh, sure," I told her as I went outside and headed towards the pack house. 'Meet me at the pack house' I told my beta through the mind link.

"Hey, you're finally awake," My beta told me as he walked into the pack house. "Have you gone to see your mate yet?" He asked me.

"What are you talking about? She was right beside me when I woke up," I asked him as if he was stupid.

"Kai has been at her house all day, there is no way she was beside you when you woke up," he told me as he looked at me like I was crazy.

"Who is Kai? Brittany is my mate. She told me herself," I told him as I crossed my arms and continued to stare at him like he was stupid.

"Dude Kai is your mate," He told me as he looked at me like I had memory loss.

"Lucas! Stop playing around with the mate thing. Brittany is my mate, ok?"

"Ok, fine," he told me.

"Now back to business. How is the pack?" I asked him as we started walking towards my father's office.

"The pack is fine. Everyone who was injured has healed. Your father is dying, Eric. You need to become alpha soon or the pack will fall apart when your father dies," he told me as he looked at the floor, obviously sad that his alpha is dying.

"Fine schedule the ceremony for next Saturday," I told him. "I need to speak with my father, Lucas," I told him as I started going towards my father's room.

"Ok," he told me as he turned around and headed out of the pack house.
