The Tale of Nymue the Niseag Ch 6

Topazial Sea Depths:
Ka'ahupahau was waiting for her armor to be completed. Since she lived in the sea, their weapons and armor weren't made from metal due it rusts. So most merfolk make their armor out of whatever they can find on the seafloor. Large seashells, coral, and even bones from some aquatic creature. In Ka'ahupahau's case, her armor was a breastplate made from hoetre shells and the bones of a leptaba.

The Hoetre are 20 foot wide creatures resembling a giant oyster. They have a very rugged shell, allowing them to blend easily with the submarine rocks. They are quite a delicacy for giant mermaids.

As for the Leptabas, also called flying whales, they are strange creatures, vaguely resembling a flattened white or light blue whale, with very large membranous wings. It is rare to see one in Felarya, mostly because they tend to stick around let lines and other powerful sources of magic.

As she completed the finishing touches on her armor, she thought about the meeting with the pack elders.

Two nights ago:
Ka'ahupahau was nervous about meeting the pack's council elders. Would they accept her as the new alpha? She didn't know and continued to swim towards the underwater cavern where the elders would meet.

Once she arrived, she noticed that the elders had already gathered around her and inspected everything about her, her physical health, her posture, her resilience and confidence as the next alpha. Once they were finished, they revealed their judgment. "We have concerns about your leadership potential." The lead elder said. He had fair skin, blue eyes and curled black hair. His lower half resembled that of a Dunkleosteus.

"What?!" Ka'ahupahau was shocked. They hadn't even met her and they were already judging her?

"We know that you are very confident, and your physical health is good, but we question your mental stability. Can you lead our pack the way your father did? How do you plan to deal with Rahab? We are well aware that she is your older sister." the lead elder asked as he swam towards her in a non-aggressive manner.

Ka'ahupahau thought quickly on how to handle this. She wanted to be a good leader.

"I will lead the pack with a firm hand and respect for all within the pack!" she declared.

"Hmm, yes...and how will you deal with your sister? If you force a fight she could easily kill you like she did with your parents, and become the new alpha." The elder asked again.

He was an old friend of her father and mother and he wanted to make sure that Ka'ahupahau was ready to become the alpha the pack needed.

Ka'ahupahau thought about it and she knew that he was right, Rahab was more powerful than her and would stop at nothing to become the new alpha even if she had to kill her own sister to do it.

"You're right, Kamohoali'i. She could easily kill me to claim the title of the new alpha, but I will still give it my all to protect our pack and become the alpha we need." she swore to him and the rest of the council.

The elders looked at each other then to Ka'ahupahau. They seemed to be satisfied with her answer.

"Good, now we've heard that you have sent two scouts. One to keep an eye on your sister, but why send one to find that Niseag?" Kamohoali'i asked with the others agreeing with him.

Normally they considered Niseag to be prey, so to hear that their new alpha was looking for one was confusing.

Ka'ahupahau herself had to admit that it was unusual for her to seek the aid of what would've been her prey, but that Niseag had managed to survive her sister's attack and drive Rahab back to the depths. She had to respect that, even if the rest of the council didn't.
