The girl walked through the halls of the abandoned castle, her white dress billowing about her bare feet as she headed towards her destination. The cold stone sent shivers up her spine, the dead leaves skittering across the ground as she walked, stirring up the dust. She heard nothing beyond the crackling of dry leaves and the gentle whispers of the wind. Unbeknownst to the gentle girl, a malevolent spirit watched her every move, waiting for the time to come when he would strike.
The banished king of a dark land, he waited in his dimensional prison for the perfect moment to corrupt the unsuspecting girl. The time of the autumn equinox was only minutes away. If he could distract her long enough, he would be able to corrupt her and use her to rule his kingdom.
The girl gently pushed open the creaky wooden doors, coming to the large stone balcony that overlooked the sea. She saw flashes of old memories from centuries past. Grand parties, young people falling in love over the course of a night, and several dramatic fights that broke out along this balcony. The memories and secrets it held. The whispers of planned escapes from arranged marriages, secrets, lies, thoughts, emotions, spilled like ink over the stone, encased in time and wrapped in a blanket of dust, the secrets and memories were kept under lock and key.
The girl could sense the negative emotions that lay buried under time. Anger, betrayal, pain, loneliness, brokenness, sadness, but she could also sense the beautiful and happy emotions, joy, love, wholeness, the feeling of being with the ones you love that no words could ever explain. She smiled as she felt the emotions boiling under the surface of the stone. It was a chaotic and violent thing, but in its chaos, there was beauty.
Dusk was almost upon her, throwing deep reds through the broken and cracked windows, making the castle almost seem alive, though the girl knew that there was nothing living left in the old fortress. She had come back to her old home, the one her parents had abandoned when she was only a child. After the Graystone War, the people living in the castle slowly started disappearing, though the only people being taken were the people surrounding the young princess.
When the king and queen realized that some sort of ghost was after their only child, they abandoned the fortress, leaving it for the spirit. After the free people left, the vengeful spirit killed his prisoners, leaving them strewn about the castle in varying states of decay and after different tortuous methods of murder. He wandered the empty halls of the castle in a constant state of misery and anger, never finding anyone within his boundaries to kill, for his existence was tied to the castle.
Eventually, the spirit faded, not being able to sustain himself on the souls of the living. Then, a different vengeful spirit took up residence. This one was once a powerful regent, banished from his kingdom after the Graystone War, for he initiated the war with the young princess's parents. The Battle of Ebony and Ivory was the last battle of the war, when the Ivory armies finally conquered Ebony's hoards of disturbingly twisted creatures and banished their king to the Black Glass dimension. This place trapped him within the bounds of the realm, never able to interact with the objects or people in the mortal world, only able to watch and observe them. The only time where he could possibly interact with the world was the autumn equinox, which was seconds away, and the perfect vessel for his power was standing right where he needed her. He waited with bated breath for the perfect moment.
The girl was standing at the railing of the balcony, her dress flowing in the wind and her dark hair rippling around her face. The unsuspecting female stared out at the horizon, lost in her own thoughts, failing to notice the sun just reaching to kiss the earth with its light, the borders between dimensions, realms, and worlds thinning as the light faded. The girl's gaze was suddenly interrupted by a translucent being.
He was here.
(A/N) Hello! This is the first chapter of an idea that I got a while ago, but only wrote now. It's an experimental theme/genre that I probably won't be doing again because it's kinda exhausting to write all this angst. It's far less draining to write cute pieces of fluff that make you feel good.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this story! I think it's going to be a pretty short story, but it all depends, tbh. Like I said, it's kinda hard to write all this angst (though I really enjoyed writing all the descriptions and stuff), so hopefully, my followers will have mercy on me and grant me the gift of a happy, fluffy ending, but I dunno how this is gonna end.
Have a good day, babes! Stay safe!
