Getting Used To Things

From what felt like a day became a week of settling into what I now know as "life." It was June 5th, 2012. According to Eden we were going into town to meet up with two friends who I'm supposed to know. Of course, I have no damn clue who they are, Wanda and... Zeus? I really couldn't remember their first names even if I tried, Eden always called them Corduroy and Ramírez. I sat in my room, starting to dose off again. I haven't been getting a lot of sleep lately, something, terrified me about it... I don't even know why, despite my fears though my eyes started to gain more weight as I lied down. 'I mean a small nap couldn't hurt.'

Well the nap didn't hurt physically, but my god was this a weird one. From being inside an unfamiliar home with people I couldn't recognize, they were all tattered. Like it was the apocalypse or something, running outside was worse. It was like the earth flipped upside down, and the ozone layer became a bubble with color vomit. Ripples in the sky... flying creatures... It felt like forever and no time at all at the same time. Like time couldn't move anymore. Stuck. It felt like it was stuck forever... My dream was interrupted by a bright light filling my vision, and then it all faded to black as my eyes started to flutter open to my surroundings.

Like an instinct, I grabbed the nearest thing I could write on which was thankfully my journal and started to record my dream. After all the details I could recall were enlisted, I started to flip around the other pages. Almost curious if I ever gotten a dream like this before, but there was nothing. On a brighter note it looked as if most of my dreams were different however, I guess I couldn't always dream the same thing. 'Oh thank goodness...' Oh how I really didn't want to see such blinding horrors upon my eyes again. I sighed as I set my journal aside and got up stretching my back then heading to the door. I slowly raise my hand to the door before grabbing it and quickly opening it.

I made my way into the kitchen to see a bit more food than usual, pancakes, bacon... Yeah that was it just Pancakes and Bacon. "What's the occasion?" I asked, "Oh? Well, it's gonna be a day out in town, so..." Eden picked up an empty cup as well as a plate. "We might as well eat a bit more before we go, they do say breakfast is the most important meal of the day after all." I gave her an awkward smile before taking the items and getting some breakfast. The food was good-- but I really couldn't hold back the grimace in my face when I tasted the occasional burnt parts. Eden leaves the table, before leaving the kitchen they casually mention, "We'll be leaving at 11am by the way." "Okay" I say, muffled by the food still in my mouth.

In a matter of a couple hours I found myself in the woods again with Eden going on the path towards town. I was looking around the forest, I mean. I've seen it a good few times now but like-- it felt so... Mysterious. I don't exactly know why, it's a pretty normal forest: Grass, leaves, trees... maybe it was the lighting of everything. Despite the weather forecast always saying it's gonna be hot, it's always cooler in the forest. I look over to Eden, She seemed to be distracted by the forest's appearance as well. Looking up at the forest's roof and sky behind it, it was quiet, but not awkward like the previous walks. "So uhm, what's up with your eyes?" Eden's head sharply turned towards y direction wide-eyed, "P-Pardon?" "Your eyes-- they uh- look different, I think?" I tried to explain as Eden awkwardly chuckled "oh- haha- Uhm. Just uh.." Eden looked back up to the sky, "Heterochromia, just uhm, always been like this. Uh luck I guess?" I nodded "Uhm, I'm sorry-- was that offensive?" "No no! Not at all just a little surprised, that's all. Haven't gotten a comment like that before." Remember how I said it wasn't an awkward walk? Yeah, at first it was, the rest was a little awkward.

"And this here is an Arcade, this is where we're meeting Corduroy and Ramírez." Eden explained as she held out the door for me. "Looks uh, different." I stated looking around "Haha, I know right? Basically it's just a place with..." Eden starts explaining as she made her way over to an arcade machine with an obnoxious green triangle on the screen, "Really, really, shitty games." "Hey, don't shame Fight Fighters like that!" We both heard from a distance "Aw shit, she heard me--" Eden chuckled as I looked over her shoulder seeing a tall red head running over to us as well as another large... Hamster... Man child? "Oh dude, Y/N? Is that like, you dude? We haven't seen you in over a week. Some freak accident or something." The larger one commented pointing at me as I started to scratch the back of my neck 'Freak Accident? I only woke up in the woods only a week ago. Wait was it in the woods?' I started trying to think, trying to regather what happened a week ago, but the more I thought about it the more it began to slip away, 'Well if it wasn't the woods then where the hell was it? Shouldn't I remember something like this?' I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder dragging me back into reality and outside of my thoughts. "Dude? You cool there Y/N?" The red-head asked with a concerned expressions. "Uhm.." Eden began to speak up, "They don't really remember you two.. They've been having some troubles with their memory as of lately." Eden explained to the two individuals as they started to nod with an "o" expression. "Shit, sorry man! I'm Wendy, oh dude Tambry's gonna hate hearing this you two got along really well." Wendy mumbled the last part to herself quietly to where I almost couldn't hear her. "I'm Soos dude! Nice to meet you again dude." Soos held out his hand for me to shake which I did.

Despite the awkward introduction earlier, the 4 of us were able to kick off our afternoon in a more fun manner. In an hour we all heard a phone alarm erupt from Eden, "aw.. It looks like it's me to make my exit. Work time for me again, have fun guys--" Eden started heading off before suddenly stopping and going back "Wendy would it be okay if I asked you to help Y/N on their way home? Just in case?"

"Yeah dude I can do that." Wendy replied "Okay, thank you so much-- Uhm, Eden has the house keys, uhm-- Yeah-- Okay bye!" Eden said before actually leaving the Arcade in a faster pace. Wendy shrugged before grabbing my attention to another arcade game.

It was about 3 hours before it hit 5 o' clock. "Oh dude it's getting kind of late. Should we like go or something?" Soos stated as Wendy rose her brow "Soos it's 5, that's not late. 8 is late." Wendy said as she sighed, "Might as well get going I guess." Wendy surrendered waving at Soos and me as we both traveled to the entrance of the arcade and left.

The walk home was more chatty today, Wendy was notably more talkative than Eden. She talked about everything in High School she remembered that included me. She also talked about how much I tried to get away with sleeping at this... Mystery Shack. Apparently I work there, I laughed awkwardly at some parts. It's not that they were embarrassing, I just wished I remembered them. I found myself a little happy though, to hear all of this stuff about me, like an attempt to gather these small pieces of my past to try and make some kind of sense of anything. Getting home, I thanked Wendy, "Wait, will you be okay? It was an hour walk and it's starting to get kind of dark..." "Nah man it's fine, thanks though dude! Night!"

That night I got home I grabbed some take out from the fridge for dinner before watching television for a few hours before falling asleep on the couch.

"God, You really are gullible aren't you? You should know by now this isn't exactly a situation you can escape $#%^*" I bolted awake, 'what the hell? I just heard that right?' I thought I heard a voice, it sounded so real, but also it... didn't. "I'll have you know I can do my damn best to do so though! I'm not gonna give up you notorious villain!" Screamed the TV as I looked over to it seeing a horribly acted out scene. 'Oh, it was... Just the TV.' I eased my thoughts before noticing the blanket on me. 'Oh, that was pretty nice of her..' I got off from the couch and folded the blanket, setting it down gently on the couch. I then turned off the TV and made my way to my room where I resumed my night of dreaming.
