Athena ran through the halls and ducked into another classroom. Her vision was blurry and she felt she was gonna faint. She could feel the blood on her hands and the increasing pain in her abdomen. Maybe if she just closed her eyes for a little bit—
No! Athena scolded herself and brought herself to her feet, she stumbled around the classroom trying to find something to use. She walked towards the teachers desk and after some squinting she saw a hoodie laying on the floor by what she assumed was the teachers chair. She slipped off her bloody shirt and began ripping it into a long strand to use as an alternative to a bandage. Every once in a while she would stop and listen making sure nothing was coming down the hallway. After she patched up her wound a reasonable amount, she put on the hoodie. Her shirt wouldn't last long, it was already soaking up too much blood. Athena picked up the keycard she had set down for a brief moment before. She needed to be smart about this. She thought for a moment, catching her breath and trying to focus on escaping. Athena got back up and started towards the door, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, tried tears still lay on her torn face. Athena figured if she made it to the nurse's office she could replace her previous bloody shirt with the proper materials. And make a plan from there. There was only one problem that she didn't know she could face. In order to make it to the nurses office she would have to make it to the commons. The place where she had first lost one of her best friends, Harley.
Athena gathered up her courage and exited the room. She hesitantly walked down the hallway, there where two ways to get to the lower floor from where she was, two staircases on each side of the hall with an elevator accompanying the one on the right. The left one would be faster but its more open once you reach the bottom. Athena took the right staircase and went what the students call the 'back way'. She moved towards the nurses office stopping often to support herself. Ever since first leaving the classroom it had been dead silence nothing but Athena and her thoughts.
"I wonder if it left the school?" Athena secretly hoped, supporting her self on the wall. She was almost to the nurses office when her heart rate rose, she realized how close she was to where Harley and been slain. She figured she could just quickly run past and move on but yet she wanted to take a closer look. The type of feeling you have when your watching a horror movie and something horrible happens, your at the edge of your seat, waiting and wanting to know what happens next.
The curiosity got the best of Athena and when the time came she shuffled to Harley. Sure enough she was still dead (obviously) but Athena still couldn't wrap her head around what was happening. Was it to late to hope this was all just a horrific dream?
Harley lay on her back, her skin growing pale. The sight of this wanted to make Athena cry, her eyes soon began spilling tears down her face. Athena moved ever closer to Harley's body, she kneeled next to her and just stared. Athena moved the hair that was placed in Harleys face and saw something 'new' on her neck. It was the same symbol that had been on that scrap of paper, the last time she saw the strange symbol was when it was caught in the window. Athena stared at the symbol, she felt like she was missing something—
She gasped, coving her mouth with her hands. Athena stood up hoping she wasn't to loud and ran to the nurses office.
She remembered what she saw on tv a couple days ago. All those reports about dead bodies with strange symbols, this monster was what was causing them.
"But what does it mean? What it it some type of rune, a source of power?" Athenas thoughts stumbled around in her brain,
"Maybe the symbol could help her escape?" Athena shook away the idea, "how would a symbol help me escape."
Athena made it to the nurses office, she rummaged through the cabinets looking for a medical kit. Thoughts about the bodies and symbol encasing her mind. She began to get a little to aggressive and wasn't paying attention to how loud she was getting. Athena had her head in the clouds and regarded how noisy she was being. She sat down on the bed that was placed in the corner of her room. She took off the sweat shirt along with her regular one and replaced it with a bandage. She flinched in pain a few times but continued.I took a deep breath as I finished patching up the gash on the side of my ribs, I was exhausted and my emotions were all over the place. 'Alright Athena you can do this' I stood up from the nurses bed and made my way to the door. I peeked around the corner and slowly made my way back towards the front doors. I stumbled and kept tripping over my feet, I truly didn't know if i could make it. Would it even matter if i made it out, all my friends are gone, and if I were even able to get to the police they wouldn't believe me. I was trapped in my thoughts, I took another step and felt something under my feet. Before I had time to react I slipped and fell backwards making a 'Yelp as I made my way down to the floor. "Ahh Fuck" I clutched my ribs feasting my head on the floor. I started closing my eyes when something echoed out form the hallway. A growl sounded from behind me. I opened eyes quickly and clumsily got up from the floor. 'How is that possible I could've sworn IT was on the other side of the school. I started speed walking down the hallway, you'd think after so much time in almost complete darkness your eyes would adjust more. My walk turned into a run. I could hear foot steps behind me, my wound was slowing me down. A 'whoosh' sound came right passed my ear and a black spear lay puncture in the ground. My eyes widened with fear as I tried to run faster I could keep this up forever. I decided it was best just to try to make it to the front doors. Before I knew it tears were running down my face and my heart rate was so high I couldn't hear myself think. Spikes soared passed me nearly skimming me multiple times. I breathed heavily running out of breath. As I ran I got closer and saw the front doors of the school. I still had the keycard in my hand, my paced slowed slight when an intense pain shot through my body.
