ADDY'S POV:
I met Lizzie's family on Saturday and it was very awkward. It got better during the last hour of our meet up. Adding to the craziness, Lizzie announced to the world that she adopted me!
Today's Monday and after countless conversations, I'm starting public school today. I'm very nervous. At the last school I was at, I got bullied almost every day. On top of being nervous about starting a new school, this school already started a month and a half ago.
I'm pacing my room anxiously. Even though Lizzie has been assuring me that everything will be okay, I'm still terrified of starting a new school. Lizzie laid out some clothes on my bed. (Below is a picture of Addy's outfit and hairstyle) After I get dressed, Lizzie does my hair in two buns. Then I get my stuff ready for school.
Before I know it, it's time to go and I grab my backpack with my lunch and school supplies in it and I climb in Lizzie's car. Honestly, I think the best part of the day will be when I climb in Lizzie's car after school and we drive to set to see everyone. Tonight we're all having dinner together. I'm looking forward to it.
We're pulling up to school and I start shaking. Lizzie notices and says "Addy, it's going to be okay. Have a great day, Angel! I can't wait to hear all about it! I'll see you after school! Love you!" "Okay. Love you! See you later," I say. Then I get out of the car and take a deep breath.
I walk to the front office and walk inside. I tell the lady at the front desk my name and she writes something on a sheet of paper. Then she hands it to me and she explains how I get to my classroom. She says the instructions are written on the paper in case I forget. I nod and thank her then I leave the front office and make my way to my classroom which is towards the back of the school.
The school is outdoorsy in the sense that it's not just one big building. You're outside while you walk to your classroom. As I walk, I pass the lunch tables, the field with a big track around it, the blacktop, and the playground. I arrive at the 4000 building and I find classroom 4102. I pause outside of my classroom door and I take a deep breath and walk inside. The classroom looks like the teacher spends her nights and weekends on Pinterest. I spot my teacher standing at her desk and I walk up to her desk.
"Excuse me?" I say softly. "Hi! You must be Addy! I'm Mrs. Nelson. Welcome to the class!" says my teacher. "Thank you. Do you know where my seat is?" I ask. "Oh, yes! Of course. You're seat is right there," says Mrs. Nelson pointing to the desk dead center and closest to her desk. Oh, goody. I'm right in front of the teacher. "Thank you," I say. Then I sit down. Some of the other kids have their bags on the little side hook attached to their desk. I put mine there too. The rest of the class comes in and no one acknowledges my presence which is very noticeable since I have a front row seat dead center and directly in front of Mrs. Nelson's desk. I count and I realize that I am one out of 20 kids in my class.
The bell rings and Mrs. Nelson gets the class's attention. "Class, we have a new student joining us!" says Mrs. Nelson. Then she motions for me to stand up. I stand up and turn to face my class. "Hi, I'm Addy Olsen," I say, not wanting to say much more even though Lizzie says that I can say whatever I want. "Addy, do you want to tell us a few fun facts about yourself?" asks Mrs. Nelson. A few boys snicker. I take a deep breath and say "My mom is Elizabeth Olsen and my favorite colors are red and gold." Everyone starts whispering to each other after I say that my mom is Elizabeth Olsen. Then I sit down. "Thank you, Addy," says Mrs. Nelson. I nod.
