7. MAKE A WISH Pt. 2

“SURPRISE!”

And then a loud ‘pop’ exploded causing me to nearly jump out of my own skin. I nearly I half-jumped again as the lights suddenly came on and everyone laughed in front of me. I couldn’t believe my eyes as when I recognised familiar faces from school, including a very satisfied Marcus in front of me with a camera flashing in my eye.

“Surprise Scarlett!” he half-yelled running up to me and pulling me into a tight hug!

“Happy birthday” he called out simultaneously with the others behind him as I fully stepped in. I was surprised, dumbfounded and… shocked!

“Thanks” I said as laughter’s rose and everyone started wishing me a happy birthday and chatting amongst themselves.

I nearly forgot. I turned around instantly as Marcus pulled away from the hug. There he was, casually standing at the door frame, hands in his pockets and that smirk bigger than ever. His eyes were glistening. Asher.

I walked up to him slowly, “So I’m guessing you were in on this too?” I asked, pouting; pretending to be annoyed.

“He sure was, it was his idea in the first place!” Marcus replied, overjoyed. I looked to Marcus, surprised, “What? When did you guys plan this?” I asked.

“Today” another voice interrupted. It was Slater, handing me a drink with a cheeky grin. I accepted and then realized this is what they must have been discussing earlier today when I saw them.

“Hope you’re not mad” Asher said softly, taking a sip of his drink. We were now in the middle of the front room and I glanced around, everything was a mess.

“Mad that you guys somewhat broke into my house without me knowing and decided to throw a party?” I took a sip, “no, not at all” I said mockingly and they all laughed.

“Well, technically, we didn’t break in, we used a key”. Marcus let me know, and my eyes widened, causing me to nearly choke.

“Wh-What?” I asked as they took in my expression and laughed. “How the hell did you get a key?” I asked.

“Underneath the plant pot outside. You’re not creative much are you?” he laughed. Damn, I thought. I completely forgot Dad left a spare set of keys there in case I lost or forgot  mine.

“Well, remind me to change the locks in the future” I replied hastily and laughed with them.

“So how does it feel, finally being an eighteen-year old?” asked Slater?

I shrugged, “No any different.”

“Well, your no fun then” Slater mused as I scowled.

“You can finally join the army like you’ve always wanted?” Marcus added, drinking another sip from his cup and I nearly choked again.

“Where did you get that idea doofus?” I asked, about to hit him over the head.

“Oh, wait, that’s me!” he laughed, as did we all.

“How much have you exactly had to drink?” I asked him, about to scold him.

“Not neaaaarlrly enough - live a little baby Scarlett"” he teased as I blushed a little and looked to Slater. “Whaddaya say matey, how about we bring in another keg?” he asked Slater who literally roared at the idea.

“Er” I was about to protest looking at Slater who turned his enthusiasm down a notch.

“Don’t worry, it’s nothing illegal, just soda… with a kick!” he said before running of with Marcus.
