Completely unaware of what is happening in Dr. Nair's office, Rohan enters a string of code and hits the enter button.
The gibberish disappears and the flash drive shows a single file on it.
Rohan looks at Tanya triumphantly and clicks on the document.
The details that open up in front of them blow them away. They find integral information about Indian civil servants who are currently on the ISI payroll – working as moles in the Indian Government for the Pakistani Intelligence Agency.
As they scroll down the sheet they gasp out loud as there are names they both know – people who hold high posts in various Government agencies.
At the bottom of the sheet there are three entries that are highlighted in red.
One states - Agent in D.I.A. 'unidentified'.
Next one says - Agent in N.I.A. 'unidentified'.
The last line states - I.S.I. India Head - Code name 'Khan Bhai – 'unidentified'.
Rohan and Tanya sit back and stare at each other stupefied by what they have just unearthed.
Rohan blows out a huge breath, "Shit, this proves there are moles everywhere. And also proves that Alan was innocent. This whole thing was a setup right from the beginning.... A smoke screen to protect these moles."
Tanya rubs her face still in shock, "Moles in the N.I.A. and the D.I.A... I can't believe it."
Rohan looks grim, "Well, we better believe it now. The proof is all here, including bank accounts and transactions. And the head of ISI in India is named Khan Bhai..."
Tanya looks at him, "No way Rohan. I know what you are thinking. Chief Khan is too well-decorated an officer to ever be a mole."
Rohan looks at her uncertainly just as his phone rings, "It's Jack."
He answers and listens, then stands up in a rush, "Jack, Jack.... Are you ok? Jack... can you hear me?"
He turns to Tanya, "The guys are in trouble. We need to get there, immediately."
They grab the flash drive, rush out and jump into a cab. On the way, Rohan tries calling Sunny but gets no response. They get to Dr. Nair's clinic to find chaos reigning outside.
There are 2 ambulances; lots of police cars and people gathered everywhere. Rohan surveys the scene, then slips around the open door of an ambulance and pulls out two medical kits. He hands one to Tanya and they rush in like medics.
They survey the carnage around them. There are chairs overturned, glass strewn on the floor and 2 people are dead in the waiting area. They head on to the office where they see Doctor Nair lying is a pool of blood. A couple of medics are attending to him. In the other corner, they see Jack lying on the floor with his shirt soaked in blood. He is unconscious with an oxygen mask on his face and he is sucking in shallow breaths. Rohan asks a medic, "Is he ok? Will he survive?"
The medic nods, "He has lost a lot of blood. We are taking both of them to the Emergency Room immediately."
Rohan nods and scans the room. There are clear signs of a struggle, with papers scattered everywhere, a broken flower vase, and a few shattered photo frames too. Rohan bends down as he sees something shinning under the cupboard. He sees Sunny's phone there. He quietly stoops down and picks it up, slipping it into his pocket on the way out.
They quickly walk out and head away from the chaos.
Rohan is looking angry as he slows down, "What the hell happened back there? How could Dr. Nair have been attacked? No one knew where we were!"
Tanya holds his hand trying to calm him down; "I know you are upset seeing Jack like that. He will be fine."
"It's not that. We are trained to face these situations. I need to understand how anyone apart from us knew about Dr. Nair's whereabouts!"
"What exactly did Jack say when he called?"
"He said – Rohan, we need help... come quick... Sunny is..."
"Sunny is what?"
"His voice cut off there... he didn't complete the sentence."
Tanya and Rohan look at each other for a long minute.
Rohan shakes his head, "No way, I'm not buying it... It can't be Sunny."
"I understand, but let's look at the facts. No one but us knew about the doctor. Sunny and Jack were there to ensure his safety. Jack nearly gets killed and Sunny is nowhere to be found. Why hasn't he called us? He should have reached out to us immediately."
Rohan sighs deeply, "Well, I found his burner phone on the ground in the office. We have got so much information we need to process. I need to think this through."
They both stare at each other for a long time and Rohan feels all his well-trusted survival instincts kicking in with the adrenaline rush. He looks around at the chaos reigning around him and suddenly realises that once again it's him versus the world.
