"Welcome to our humble abode, I guess." Musa said, offering Daniel a seat.

"Thanks." He replied, before scanning the place. "This apartment looks very good. I like the view. Would you mind?" He asked, gesturing at the door leading to the balcony.

She looked where he was pointing with his thumb, "No of course not. Would you like a coffee? Or anything?"

This was a long walk away from her comfort zone. An uninvited man was in her apartment. Tall frame, broad shoulders and somewhat intimidating.

"A coff-"

"You're making my apartment feel small. What are you doing here?" She cut him off.

She cursed her stupid tongue for moving.

The man chuckled, stood, then walked out to the balcony. "I'd like some coffee."

Heaving a sigh, she made it. Two mugs of sweet and creamy but strong coffee. Just how she preferred it.

"I wasn't aware that you smoke." She said as soon as she stepped outside, handing him the mug.

"You couldn't have been aware. You've only known me for what, three days? And besides, I'm not a regular." He said extinguishing the little burning stick of tobacco.

Staring out into the city, they both enjoyed their coffee in silence.

"We should be able to live like this forever. Enjoying the views and the company they come with." The man said, a small smile on his face.

She had never seen him smile before, "Who would build the views if we all just sat and did nothing? These city lights are people's hands. The buildings we enjoy the company and views from, they come from someone's hands." Musa said thoughtfully. Internally marvelling at the human species and its beautiful ways of destroying itself.

Daniel scoffed and smirked, she was right. As all overthinkers usually are. He was not pleased with her dampening the line of thought, sometimes being oblivious of the consequences of our desires was okay. For a moment, he wanted to scold her, but he decided against it. Instead, he pulled out his Marlboro and lit it, his demeanor relaxing at the familiar sound of his lighter clicking and coming to life.

"I'm going to order in, I'm getting hungry and my cook isn't home." She paused, anxiety creeping in, slowly. "Where is she?! How can I not think of her absence until now?" She stood fast and bolted inside, to find her phone.

"Musa!" Dan tried to stop her, but she was already gone. He knew she wasn't coming home, she had said it so many time in hopes that Daniel would get the hint. That girl wanted her friend to get laid, even if it was by a man they both barely knew. This idea had made Daniel chuckle. They seemed to be the most perfect pair of friends he had ever seen or encountered. Almost like him and his little sister.

He zapped his cig on the flower pot beside his essential chair and stood. Inside, Musawakhe was pacing up and down, holding the phone to her ear. And before he could reach for her shoulder to calm her down, she exclaimed.

"Hey! Where are you?! Why aren't you home yet?! Are you okay?" She asked in one breath, and paused.

"Has Daniel left yet? I can come home if you want. I thought he was going to sleep over or maybe spend the night with you elsewhere. I'm with Courtney, you can also come here if you don't mind." Her friend said, causing her to pause and register her words.
