Darling, if you could forgive
what fear does to me
we could talk for another night
and I'll tell you why
my love is so swift.
So darling don't weep
don't shed your tears
don't beg for me to stay
for I can't be contained
by such a tender play.
I remember that peaceful night
When you asked me
Who will you be?
while staring with such anticipation
that I didn't care
if your answer wouldn't fit me
I remember it
howling through the night
the earthquake's cry
before it all began
screaming, screeching
from the deepest soul of the earth.
I thought it was calling my name
to sweep me away,
and it was me it was searching for
pleading to be followed along
and so tender was its lament
promising a sweet descent
I said I wouldn't come
as I wasn't ready to be buried whole.
Darling, there was a time
when you were my love
but I pushed it ashore
for I could not comply
with its tender rule,
couldn't bear to loose my knots.
