Around the 20th song, my phone started to ring. Hayden's name popped up as the Caller I.D. It was only 10:30A.M. All summer Hayden slept until 2:00P.M. every single day.
As I answered the phone I heard two distinct voices yell out. "Hey, M!" The cheerful tone of my friends friends' voices slipped a smile onto to my face.
"Hey guys, glad to hear you're back, Lex!"
I could hear her smile through the phone. "I just couldn't stay away from you, babe," she managed to get out between giggles. Alexis's giggle was the cutest thing ever. My best friend was truly adorable. "Are you at the courts?"
"Yeah," I replied.
Hayden grabbed the phone from Lex, "I just picked up Miss Beach Body. Want to meet us at the coffee shop? My treat!"
My eyes lit up with excitement. "Yes, of course! Give me 30 minutes." Coffee was my favorite, but I couldn't always buy it for myself. Nothing made me happier then when Hayden treated us to coffee.
"Okay, see you there!"
Without another word I turned to grab my bag. I walked through the communtity's park until I plowed into an unsuspecting bystander. A faint squeal was let out by the person who was about to become my cushion.
Desperately, I tried to catch myself before crushing the skinny body beneath mine. When we landed on the ground I crawled to my knees to apologize. "I'm so sor..." I stopped dead in my tracks as I met the gaze of a petite girl with brilliant blue eyes.
She smiled, and her cheeks became a rosy shade of red. Her hesitant stutter was clear. The girl flubbed with her words, "No, no, it's fine! It was totally my fault." She peaked away, then back at my body, looking me up and down, like some sort of pray.
My cheeks felt like they were engulfed in flames. "Uh.. like what you see?" I teased.
This girl had amazing cheek bones, and the shade of them turned from rosy to fire engine."I-I..." she stuttered.
I stood up and brushed off my scuffed up hands. Instantly, my hands reached to help the gorgeous girl I just ran over like a bulldozer. She placed her hands on mine and pulled herself up. The brightness of her cheeks went down as she dusted herself off. Suddenly, her hand swung out, "My name's Denise."
I grabbed her hand gently. Now I was the one looking up and down this girl's body. Carefully, I studied all her features. Denise was around 5', and her bright blue eyes were surrounded by jet black hair. I traced every curve of her body with my eyes. Fit was the first word that came to mind. She was skinny, yet curvy at the same time. Once I realized I was starring at her I blurted out, "Hey, I'm Mia."
She released my hand and grinned while she preceded to study me like I was doing to her. However, there was nothing extraordinary about me. I was on the smaller side, but I was very thick and muscular. My eyes did not sparkle like hers. The gray color could not be compared to the vibrancy of the piercing blue eyes Denise had. Not to mention, I was so sweaty from practicing for hours. Honestly, the only thing I found appealing about me was my hair, but my blonde and blue hair was put into a messy ponytail. Already I decided in my head, if she wasn't straight, she certainly wasn't into girls like me. I didn't try to think about it though. Basketball would be there for me much longer then any girl. There was just something about Denise. Her size, shape, eyes, hair, smile, cheeks, voice. Everything about her was so attractive. She was flawless. She was the girl I've dreamt about since I was 14.
Without another word she turned and started walking away. She never looked back, but she waved to me and called out, "See you around Mia!" Each step she took I wanted to follow her. I wanted to find out more. Each step she took her butt swayed back and fourth. It was over. I felt myself falling for a girl I've known for ten minutes..
In a rush to meet with Alexis and Hayden, I jogged to the coffee shop without stopping to wash myself. I spent too much time wondering about Denise.
Once I arrived Hayden's mouth dropped, "I thought you were going to clean yourself up! What happened?!" he yelled at me in a whisper tone.
I sighed at the thought. I could barely get out it out. I know they would ask what happened, but all I could tell them was I trucked her like a forward going into a guard and we said hey! Somehow I got out, "Denise."
Alexis raised an eyebrow. She questioned me, "Denise who?"
I waited, repeating the moment over and over in my head. Denise who? I had the girl of my dreams standing in front of me and I didn't get her last name! Denise who?! I wanted to sit and bawl at the thought. Not in public though, not right here. I swallowed the lump in my throat just enough to choke out, " I have no idea."
Once the tears started to swell in my eyes Alexis looked to Hayden. After he looked back at me he spoke softly, "Let's go, M. You need some rest after all that practice."
He didn't have to say it. Alexis knew and so did he.
I nodded, and Hayden picked me up and carried me to his car. Alexis crawled in the backseat with me, so I could lay my head on her lap. That was where I felt safest. As Hayden started driving, I started crying. Alexis rubbed my head like I was a cat, but I didn't mind.
"Shhh, Mia, seriously sleep. We'll take care of you for right now, babe."
Once again I nodded and shut my eyes. Alexis's soft hands on my face reminded me of how I take care of Adalynn and Bryce. It felt so nice to have someone to care of me because I often felt so alone. I was slipping into a blackness of peace when I saw Denise's face. With that, I smiled softly and could sleep. At least I still hand her in my dreams.
