The loud gasp that fell from your lips and the feeling of you suddenly sitting right up beside her made Lia's eyes open.

She quickly turned the lamp on to get a better look at you. She sat up and brushed her fingertips along your arm, causing you to jump at first.

"I'm sorry." She whispered and felt her heart shatter when you sniffled. "Bad dream, my love?"

You nodded quickly, trying to find the words to say that would express just how terrifying the nightmare was. But it was so intense, so overwhelming, that you just couldn't.

She didn't say anything as she pulled you into her arms, holding you as tightly and as close as she could as you calmed down a little.

"It was just a bad dream. It's not real, my love. Whatever it was, it wasn't real. Everything is okay. I'm right here. You're safe." She comforted as she kissed your head and your shoulders.

You leaned your head back against her shoulder and closed your eyes, feeling your once-pounding heart start to slow down and return to its normal steady beat.

She felt you relax, your once heavy and tense shoulders slumping as you let out a shaky breath.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah." You spoke quietly. "Thank you, Lia. I'm sorry if I woke you."

"You don't need to thank me and don't worry about that, my love. You didn't wake me. I wasn't sleeping deeply."

You nodded and closed your eyes as she kissed your forehead lingeringly.

She looked at the clock on the wall as she put her chin on your shoulder.

"It's three am. Think you can get back to sleep?"

"No." You said, shaking your head.

"How about we try? Lay down, baby." She whispered and gently pushed at your shoulders, slowly laying your back onto the bed.

She laid right beside you, as close as she could get, and put her cheek on her pillow. She stared at you and stroked your cheek lovingly.

"You don't need to be afraid of anything. It was just a dream. I've got you." She assured and watched your eyes open once more.

"I don't think I can sleep."

"You're going to be exhausted, baby. It's only a few minutes after three. You need some rest." She said and you got ready to say no, even thinking about going across the hall to stay in the guest room so you wouldn't disturb her.

But then, an idea came to your mind, and you thought of a way that you'd be soothed to sleep.

"Can you sing to me?"

Her heart skipped a beat and a smile tugged at her lips. She couldn't hold it back even if she tried. You just warm her heart so much.

"What would you like me to sing, darling?"

"My favorite song."

"Okay, cutie. Close your eyes."

You did as she said and just a few seconds later, she put her lips close to your ear and began to sing you your favorite song.

She kept the brush of her hand along your cheek soft, her voice in your ear just the same as every lyric fell from her lips.

She brushed her fingers through your hair and when the song finished but she knew you weren't quite asleep just yet, she started over again.

She didn't stop until she knew you were sound asleep.

And then, she kissed your cheek lingeringly and listened to you breathe for a moment, so happy she'd been able to soothe you back to sleep; because you needed and deserved some rest.

"I love you so much. Sweet dreams, baby." She whispered and kissed your cheek once more before closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep.
