The Problem

After my aunt leaves I lay back and listen to the monitors beep. It was quiet outside the door so they were either whispering or they had gone further away. I tried not to worry but the monitor that kept track of my heart beat gave away my concern with rapid beeping.

It was slow at first.

Then it got faster.
Beep beep
Beep beep
Beep beep
Beep beep

And faster.
Beep beep beep
Beep beep beep
Beep beep beep
Beep beep beep

Until I realized that it wasn't my stress levels causing my heart to speed up.

The room started to spin and slowly go black. I searched around looking for something to throw or make noise with. I needed someone in here, now. I open my mouth to try to scream but all that came out was a cough and some blood. I pushed any button I could get my hands on, hoping it would do something. My vision faded more and more. More blood came out my mouth, all I can taste is copper. It reminded me of the time I put a bunch of pennies in my mouth from a stupid dare, I got so sick. I try to climb out of the bed and lose the feeling in my feet, I fall to the floor.

That's it.

I grab onto a monitor and use the rest of my strength to bring it down.

A minute passes, maybe two.

I'm fading.

The beeping is slowing.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-

It's all black and so cold. I want a blanket. I want my aunt. I want to-

"Bella!"

A voice calls in the distance.

"BELLA!"

I'm here but, that's not my name...

Is it?

I don't know.

"MOLLY! MOLLY COME ON WAKE UP!" Aunt Marcy?

"Will someone please remove that skin graph!" Who are you?

"Come on stay with us kid." Nurse Ann?

"This is all my fault." Hobo heart.

Beep

My heart.

Beep beep

It hurts.

Beep beep beep

Take it out.

Beep beep beep beep

I don't want it.

"What is she doing?"

"HOLD HER DOWN!"

"Some one restrain her!"

"STOP STOP!"

Silence fills the room, I still can't see. There is something squishy in my hand. It's warm but cold, and wet. I think it just twitched.

"Molly, please put that down carefully. Y-you need that." My aunt sounded scared. A sound I was unfamiliar with. A sound I enjoyed.

I could feel a smile spread across my face as I lifted the thing higher.

"N-no stop! L-let's not do anything rash." The fear was nice. For once someone was afraid of me instead of the other way around. I started to squeeze the thing.

"GOD DAMNIT KID PUT DOWN YOUR HEART!" Hobo heart yelled at me then tackled me to the ground. I heard my aunt scream. He pinned me down and pried my heart out of my hand. After the heart was safely out of my hand he sat there for a moment holding my arms above my head. "Dear god, she is blind."

"What? How is that possible?" My aunt said quickly.

"The skin graph rejection must have gone to her eyes. A rejection can cause many side effects, most of which are curable or reversible. Only time will tell if her eyes return to normal. Until then we can only try to make her comfortable and figure out why she ripped her heart out." I still didn't fully recognize the voice so it must have been the locklear guy.

"It hurt"

Hobo heart's grip on my arms loosen. "What do you mean it hurt?"

"It just hurt. The beating, the pounding, the feeling, it all hurt. I hated it. I didn't want it anymore." I stared in the direction I thought hobo heart was. "After all, I don't need a heart right? You proved I can live without one."

"Oh kid..." he sounded sad.

After that everyone was silent as they got me back on the bed.

"Well locklear, we have the problem, now what is the solution?" My aunt didn't have much emotion in her voice as she sighed the question that weighed a thousand pounds.

The spotlight was on locklear as he stayed silent.
