"Moony you didn't tell me Evans was in this class!"
They were in their first psychology lesson of the year and they'd managed to bag the table at the back thanks to some rather impressive parkour from Peter. Thankfully Remus didn't have Literature until Friday, so he had a total of three days to come up with a survival plan for the next two years. And if that didn't work, well, probably best not to think about that.
Remus looked over to where James was staring, and yes, there was Lily Evans, also known as the girl James has had an unbearable crush on since Year 7, who Remus also happened to be great friends with, a fact James was yet to decide whether it was a good thing or not.
"Sorry mate must've slipped my mind."
"Slipped your mind?? Bloody hell. That means I'm gonna have three classes with her! Three!"
"I'm sure she's proper chuffed about that one mate." Sirius said clapping James on the back.
"Try not to make a complete tit of yourself this year please." Remus added. It was bad enough to have to listen to James drone on about his plans to charm Lily Evans but it's even worse to hear Lily complain later about how awful his attempts were.
Luckily Lily and her friends Mary and Marlene sat on the opposite side of the room so the chances of James embarrassing himself were decreased by about half. Remus was sure he'd still manage it though.
"C'mon Moony you know he's incapable of acting like a normal functioning human around her," Sirius smirked, "although he struggles with that anyway."
Remus stared at Sirius for a second too long but quickly looked away. He was always doing that. It was getting embarrassing, but he didn't think Sirius had noticed. Over the summer Remus had come to rather obvious realisation that he had a massive fucking crush on Sirius Black. And now that he was aware of it, it was becoming increasingly difficult to try and hide it.
Remus just couldn't help it. And its not like Sirius is purposely trying to make Remus' life miserable with his hair and his hands and his eyes and his fucking smile. That smile. He was certain it was going to be what written as his cause of death.
But Remus had to try to at least not make it so painfully obvious, because Sirius couldn't find out. Remus wouldn't let that happen. He wouldn't let his stupid bloody selfish desires ruin his friendship with Sirius. It meant way too much to him to allow that to happen. And it's not like he thought Sirius would hate him. Sirius wasn't like that. No Sirius would be nice about it and honestly Remus thought that might be worse. So no. Remus would just have to keep his dreams of hand holding and dates and...yeah he had to keep that very much to himself.
"So what do you lot reckon the new teacher is gonna be like?" Remus asked trying to distract himself.
When they read through their timetables earlier they'd all looked at each other and said 'who the fuck is Mr Mellow'. They quickly figured out it must be the new teacher that Lily had mention and Remus tried to not be too disheartened, after all Mellow might be even worse at remembering to set homework than Flitwick.
"I heard he's well fit." Said Mary Macdonald as she waltzed up to their table. She looked effortlessly good in a dress and boots combo with her dark hair braided, and she knew it too.
"Since when do you trust other people's judgments Macdonald?" Sirius countered smirking.
Remus was sure that most people would assume Mary and Sirius hated each other, but after a while you learn to understand that the insults and evil glances are actually just their love language. Probably not the healthiest friendship but it seems to work for them. Or was it relationship again? Remus could never keep up and to be honest he tried not to think about Mary and Sirius doing anything remotely romantic. Jealously was not a good colour on him.
"You're not wrong black, you're not wrong s'pose we'll just have to decide for ourselves."
And as if on cue Mr Mellow walked in. And wow. Maybe the universe was trying to make it up to Remus because the man that just walked could easily body double for Tom Hiddleston.
Remus looked around the room and at least half the class was gaping and staring, including Sirius? Now Remus wasn't going to allow himself to think too much into that.
"Fuck me he's hot." Sirius breathed out quietly.
And did Remus hear that right?
Wow okay that was an interesting development that he was going to store in his brain to deeply over analyse later.
Mr Mellow however seemed completely oblivious to the affect he'd just had on the class, or maybe he was just used to it by now.
"Okay everyone in your seats please." Mellow said and christ he even sounded like Tom Hiddleston.
Mary made her way back over to Lily and Marlene but not before she winked at Remus and proceeded to smirk at Sirius, which okay, another addition to add to list of things to over analyse.
"Right Year 12 to get us started I'm going to set you a homework task."
And okay maybe he isn't that attractive after all.
Everyone seemed to feel a similar way if the mutterings were anything to go by.
"Now now don't start hating me already, it won't be due until the end of term AND its going to be a group presentation project."
"Told you lads it would be fun to take a class together." James said nudging Peter and Remus.
"But I will be choosing your groups." Mellow continued
"Oh come on sir!" groaned all four boys.
"I'm sure you'll cope," Mellow replied although he did look slightly put out, "okay group 1 we've got James Potter, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin-"
And huh that was lucky.
"-Mary MacDonald, Marlene McKinnon and Lily Evans."
Remus didn't think he'd ever seen James Potter so excited.
