The second day of my new life I learned another l interesting thing, some miscellaneous Zelda lore.
The lore exposition was primarily me being forced to listen to a few fairytales from a maid describing a very abbreviated version of the events taking place before, during, and after Skyward Sword. It was an okay story, for a child, but it felt odd knowing it was fictional in another world but most certainly real here.
Honestly I was a bit disappointed in myself for not actually playing the game. Just never really was interested for some reason.
Fucking bought the Switch OLED alongside my normal one. But now I'm reincarnated and can't even play it!
...Sigh...
I always thought the concept of Demise was cool. After playing and beating Twilight Princess and Wind Waker I never really felt compelled to play to completion any other of the games. I think I did beat four swords awhile back, as a kid? Maybe, I'm not actually sure if I did when I think about it.
Even though I never played Skyward I did in fact watch a bunch of gameplay footage of it for idle entertainment. Primarily the final boss fight on repeat. It was an alright fight, but nothing compared to final phase fight of Ganondorf for a cool ultimate good vs evil sword fighting, but it was still a pretty decent sword fight regarding.
"And the hero slew the great demon bringing peace to the land." The maid finished.
Not if Nintendo has anything to say about it. So long as people still enjoy Zelda and buy the games, the endless fight of Link against some evil force, sometimes a different character but usually Ganon, will never end. As etched into fate by the curse of Demise and Miyamoto himself, the conflict of the bearers of Triforce will never end until... Well... it did end in Wind Waker when Hyrule was flooded for the last time and Ganondorf turned into stone, but later on Link ended up having to fight another evil sorcerer in a DS game so ehhhh.
Who can say?
With this contemplation of lore once again, I had something else to consider when I began extending my being out into the wider world. What type of relationships did I want to forge with the people around me? Surely I should remain loyal to the Kingdom of Hyrule and dutifully use my knowledge to protect the so called good Kingdom?
But uh, the situation here could potentially be more nuanced depending on which of my theories about this mixed world was correct. If the Gerudo and Ganondorf were a reincarnation, or the victims of an aggressive Hyrule, and if the geopolitical situation in Hyrule was occurring in a way that benefited me overall.
Siding with Hyrule wouldn't exactly get me the sort of power I wanted, but it would all be up to what pragmatic decisions I'd need to take in the moment to protect myself and my own interests. I liked Link and Zelda as much as any Nintendo fan, but they just... weren't very interesting to me.
Ganondorf, Tingle, and the bug girl from Twilight Princess Agitha? Now those were characters I could get behind, not some cardboard cutouts of a hero and princess that existed solely to fulfill a prophecy, but someone who had a couple very distinct character traits for me to latch onto and enjoy being around. As opposed to a possibility silent Link. Midna was in the top of my favorites list too, but due to her current lack of existence in this dimensional plane and being the rightful sovereign of another world, I decided sadly not bet on her appearance. One can dream...
Honestly I personally liked and felt more inclined to support Ganondorf depending on how sympathetic he is in this version Hyrule. BUT! If this worlds Ganon or Ganondorf was evil past a certain specific threshold and mistreats his minions enough I would relent and side with the good guys to eradicate him at all costs.
