Chapter 2

Firepaw had settled down next to Ravenpaw's temporary nest, the moon slowly rising over the horizon. From his position in the medicine den he could see the cats grouped around Redtail's body. He turned to look at Greypaw who had fallen asleep, curled up on the other side of the nest. The ginger tom sighed, dropping his head onto his paws. The bracken beside him rustling caught his attention. He lifted his head once more, looking towards the black and white tom. Ravenpaw shifted a little more before his eyes fluttered open, revealing the vivid green. He stayed put for a moment before shooting up in his nest. He looked around the den before his eyes finally rested on Firepaw.
"Who are you? What's going on?" he stared at Firepaw with wide eyes, the fur along his shoulders bristling.
"I'm Firepaw. I just joined today" the apprentice introduced, sitting up so he could talk to Ravenpaw easier.
"And as for what happened. Tigerclaw told everyone what happened with Redtail" Ravenpaw looked down at his paws, ears tilting towards the ground.
"Tigerclaw told everyone" he mumbled, curling his tail close to his own body.
"Yeah. Is there something wrong with that?" Firepaw tilted his head. The black tom shook his head, finding interest in a feather that was lining his nest. 
"Were you close with Redtail?" 
"Not really" he mumbled, shuffling his paws. He quickly lifted his head.
"Wait you said you were new right?" Firepaw nodded, tilting his head to the side in question. Ravenpaw looked towards the medicine den entrance, pricking his ears forward like he was listening for something.
"Can you stay here until I'm allowed to leave" he looks at Firepaw with wide eyes. The ginger tom looked towards the den entrance himself, trying to find what Ravenpaw had been looking for. 
"Is there something the matter?" Firepaw looked back at Ravenpaw.
"I'm scared and I don't know who to trust. I can't tell my brothers or sisters because they won't listen to me. They'll think I was just imagining what I saw and I don't know if I was seen when it happened" Ravenpaw began digging at the nest, fur prickling along his spine as he did so. 
"I'll listen. I promise" Ravenpaw looked towards the den entrance again before leaning in close to Firepaw's ear.
"I saw Tigerclaw kill Redtail" he whispered. Firepaw pulled back, eyes widening in surprise. 
"But he said Oakheart killed Redtail and then he killed Oakheart in return" Ravenpaw shook his head.
"Oakheart didn't kill Redtail. Tigerclaw lied" Firepaw looked towards what he could see of the warriors den from where he was sat.
"I don't know why he did it but I'm really scared that he knows that I know. He might try to kill me too. So please can you help me. Even if you just stay by my side until I know I'll be safe" Ravenpaw ducked his head down closer to his shoulders. Firepaw looked down at the ground then back up at Ravenpaw.
"I promise. If anything happens then I'll make sure everyone knows that Tigerclaw is suspicious as to why" Ravenpaw's eyes lit up slightly. He dipped his head.
"Thank you. Thank you so much... umm what was it again?"
"Firepaw" 
"Thank you Firepaw" Ravenpaw leaned into the orange tom's fur, ears pinned back as he burried his face into the other apprentice's side. Firepaw placed one paw on Ravenpaw's back. The black tom leaned back, sitting back in his nest. 
"Its really cold in here. I don't know how Spottedleaf can handle being in here alone" 
"Well you aren't alone. I'm here and so's Greypaw" He flicked his tail over to the sleeping Grey tom near them. Ravenpaw nodded, settling down in his nest. He looked down at his side before pushing some bracken further away. 
"Could you maybe sleep in the nest with me?" Firepaw looked at the empty space the other apprentice was gesturing to. He got to his paws, settling next to him. He placed his head on his paws again, flank pressing against the other tom's.
"Thanks again Firepaw" the black tom closed his eyes, leaning against the ginger tom. 
"Don't worry about it" he yawned, closing his own eyes.
