The Masked Child

Chapter 8: The Caged Girl

The three of us all started heading up the stairs which were squeaking so loud that we had to cover up our ears as we went up. As we turned the corner at the top of the stairs there was blood just floating in the air. I stick my arm out and try to touch one of the blood drops but instead I faze right through it. I looked at the other two and they are both giving me weird looks.

"Um dude, what exactly are you doing? Is there something there?" Jasmine was asking with a concerned look on her face

"Do... do you two not see the dark red dried blood floating in the air?" I ask wondering if I'm sane or not

"No, there isn't anything there. You hit your head off the wall pretty hard and were out for over an hour, maybe you have a concussion and are seeing things." said Jasmine while walking through the hall to show how there is actually nothing there

As I watched her walk through the floating blood it was bouncing off her and the walls and other blood drops. The drops that she touched turned a pure black and started smoking. I walked behind her and the red blood was fine I could just phase right through but the black blood she touched burned me so I walked closer to the left side where most of the blood was still red so I could pretend I was fine now and knew it wasn't there even though it was real. "They can't see the blood, they are weak, they are not worthy to be our companions." The voice was confirming the blood was real when it said that though it is still a voice in my head that I'm now trusting to tell me what's real so my sanity is now debatable.

There is a black wooden door with a chain X over top of it with a lock in the middle. Jasmine attempts to open it to no avail. Jack uses smoke to shift the pins in the lock and get the lock off, the second the lock stops touching the chains they all just drop to the ground. Jasmine opens the door and what we see in the middle of the room is a small girl in a cage that was like ours but with much thicker bars. There's a cell door with no lock. I don't know how it's keeping her in or why she's here, though the masked child did flee because of her awakening so she must be something special.

When I looked closer at her I noticed her face was all cracked like a phone screen after you dropped it. Her eyes were pitch black with red pupils and veins. She was just standing and her chest and stomach were not moving at all as though she wasn't breathing. Every couple of seconds she would twitch with her head and hands. As she blinks I can still see the veins that are in her eyes on top of the eyelids as though looking through glass even though I can't see the rest of her eyes or even the pupil.

When I open the door she lets out a blood curdling screech and jumps out of the cage straight at me. I jump back but she just goes right through me. I was stunned for a moment in this room that went from being filled with a scream that would make you cover your ears to pure quietness, so silent it's deafening and you can hear all of your organs working. I turned around and I saw Jack and Jasmine in aw, but the girl was now gone nowhere to be seen.

I walk past the two of them tapping on their shoulders to take them out of the trance and head back through the doorway. The floating blood is now gone so I can easily walk without any problem, I look back and the two are following right behind me saying nothing. We all head down the stairs and see how bad everything is, all the dried blood that soaked the walls, floor, and furniture every object smashed and broken and a cage with one side of the bars melted and frozen back like half melted candles. Only difference in the room from when we were fighting and now us coming back down was that there was now a black metal door right in the middle of a wall, there is blood everywhere and on everything except this door.

I open the door and we all head outside. To my amazement the outside world looks just like it did before this whole thing happened. All the buildings were whole, there weren't any dead body's laying on the ground but there were also no animals and the second moon was still in the sky. I start to notice the blue sky has a red tint to it and the sun is pure black though emitting a bright white light. The ground under me started to crack and then shatter. After a moment I woke up to Jack and Jasmine fighting the masked child while three zombie dogs were trying to tear me apart
