The Masked Child

Chapter 5: The New Weapons

After 3 days we finally made it to Ohio. The first thing I noticed was that there were nearly no buildings still standing and most of the buildings that were still standing were small four room one floor buildings. We drove by a hospital that was somehow standing completely unharmed. As I turned the corner I noticed a shop with a half broken sign saying "Four Blades Shop" so I decided to pull up onto the sidewalk to see what We can find. 

We all got out of the van and headed into the shop. I picked up some chains that looked out of place I threw one while holding the end of it the other end smashed the window and wrapped around a pole that was outside, I pulled the pole down when I yanked the chain back to me I don't exactly know how I did it but it just felt natural so I grabbed a second chain and decided I would use these to hit the child with range since I can't get a gun so I wrapped them around my pants and waited for the other two. 

Jasmine picked up a blade with a semi circle curve at one end almost like a small scythe and the end of a sword and started flinging it around. She broke a couple things and then focused her fire through the end of it; the blade made her fire much more fierce and hotter than before. She grabbed its sheath, tied it around her waist and put the sword away. I noticed Jack picked up a longer sword with a black slick blade up one side and serrated white blade on the other side, as well as a small curved dagger, he sheathed the sword and put the dagger in the back of his pants. 

"Are you not gonna test it out first?" I asked cause now I felt dumb 

"No I'm not dumb like you two." He said with a smug look making me feel dumber than before 

"Tch, well doesn't matter anyways you wouldn't look as hot as Jasmine testing out a weapon like that." I say winking at Jasmine. She gives me a weak smile then heads out the door.

Some zombie dogs ran at us before I realized what I was doing my hand already pulled out one of the chains and threw it. I watched as the chain went through the dog's head, smashing it open like it was a nail hitting a water balloon filled with blood. Jasmine has drawn her sword and slashed off a couple of their heads as Jack was only using his dagger to stab the heads. We heard a scream come from around the corner where the van was. It was a mom and her daughter being attacked by three zombie dogs. I threw the chain at one smashing its head in and channeled lightning through the chain hitting the other two and killing them as well.

"Thank you for saving our lives." said the mother 

"No problem. Any chance you know how to start a civilization?" I asked really hoping she could 

"Um I don't know. I can give it a shot." she said with a very faint smile

" Well we're trying to start a new civilization because I can't watch as the human race ends. Well I could if I'm the last to be killed but I'd rather avoid that."

" Okay I'll head to Halldrove city and build it there, there's something in that city we call it 'the city of the dead' I think you'll need to explore it in order to find out whats going on; though all I've heard about it is nothing more than rumor. And because you saved me I'll make sure you have a lot of power in there and everyone will follow you." she said as she left waving goodbye 

We got in the van as the two drove off in their car. We were talking for a while then decided to drive around for a while to see if we might be able to find a clue to the masked child's whereabouts. As we drove past different houses we figured this was pointless, they all looked like they wouldn't help at all, hell most of them were completely burned to the ground. 

We passed one house that looked way too out of place and we could probably find at least something there. I turned the van around and parked the van across the street from this house. The grass didn't look burnt but was all black instead of green and there were twenty to thirty zombie dogs walking around the front yard almost as though guard dogs placed there. There were six trees three on each side which had fire instead of leaves. I can't tell if he's stupid because he was a child and thought it looked cool or thought it would scare us off or wanted us to come here. 

I hopped out of the van and used my cool lightning to kill five right off the bat. Jasmine and Jack came out after me as the dogs all turned and ran. Jack and Jasmine were cutting them all apart while I was behind throwing my chains over and over again. Two dogs jump up at Jack with the sword he knocks one back and quickly pulls out his dagger to finish off the other. Jasmine stabbed one in the mouth and lifted it up shooting fire straight through it to kill the dog behind that one. I throw a chain that wraps around one's neck. I lift it and swing it at another one, I hear a whine as they both stop moving. We must've killed at least forty of them by now I think there's not gonna be an end to them. 

I yell at the other two that we are gonna have to run past and get into the house. Jack slashes four down as he runs to the front door. As he grabs the doorknob it blows up in his face launching him back as he flies over me I catch his leg with a chain and swing him in a half circle so he can attempt to land safely. Because there is a chain around his leg he falls face first onto the ground, I should've seen that coming. He pulls the chain off and once again heads for the door, me and Jasmine run for it too. Jasmine blows it right off the hinges with her flames and we all get inside. All the dogs stop just outside the frame and don't follow us inside but keep growling at us for a couple second then turn around and start wondering around the front yard again, at first it was as thought they were scared of what was in this house but them seemed like they just could't enter or even see it along with us who just entered. 

The inside of the house was completely black and part of the floor was missing. Jasmine tried to turn the lights on but the switch didn't do anything. She coated the walls in a cold fire that lit up the whole floor, we looked around for a bit until I noticed the masked child standing atop the stairs looking down on us. It is very weird considering on the outside this house is another one floored building and shouldn't have stairs going up. He looked fake like he was made out of plastic and there was now a big chip in the mask on the right side of his mouth. 

I looked away because I heard a cracking  noise and thought it was another corpse coming at me or them but there was nothing there when I looked back he was leaping down the stairs with his arms bent backwards behind his head and his knees bending forward he also had a long tongue flailing behind him coming from under the mask. The sight was so terrifying that I just froze in place and had no idea how to react to this.
