Mapleshade jolted up and looked around, it was night and Appledusk was gone. He probably had to get back home. She looked behind her to see her hind leg it was covered in leaves, and she could properly move it. She then remembered why she even had come out here in the first place, the kits!

She stood up and began limping, not risking putting any pressure on that leg whatsoever she was very far away from the twoleg place. She was so deep into the forest after those cats had chased her down for her kits, she would have to start working around the territory if she wanted to survive. She finally made it to the fence and leapt up the branch, hissing as her leg ached for a few seconds she limped to the hole to see the kits sleeping peacefully. She sighed in relief, curling her body around them so they could stay away from the cold as it began to snow again.

Mapleshade blinked her eyes open to see Larchkit biting onto her nose, twisting and turning as if he was trying to get it off.

"Larchkit?" Mapleshade nudged the small kit with her paw and he tumbled over.

"What are you doing?" Mapleshade asked as she yawned.

"Can we go outside please?!" Larchkit rolled back onto his belly and bit his mother's lip. Mapleshade stood up and caught Larchkit with a paw as he fell from above. She thought about it for a few seconds, she hadn't seen the twolegs yet and she didn't know if she could trust them.

"Hmmm. Maybe in a little bit, ok?" Mapleshade said giving the small kit a smile. Larchkit huffed and leapt onto his siblings instead of arguing with his mother.

"Larchkit!" Patchkit hissed as he swung his paw multiple times at his brother to get him off, Larchkit backed away with a snarl. He dove onto Patchkit and began biting him like a piece of prey, dragging him by his tail and tugging his ears. Patchkit rolled over onto his back and decided to play along. Mapleshade watched as the kits played with each other, they were getting bigger and stronger every day. Soon, they wouldn't even be able to fit in the small hole anymore. She looked over to Petalkit, she was still sleeping but her nose began running Mapleshade with worry nudged her with her nose.

"Mrrrr..." Petalkit let a low growl escape from her mouth as she rolled the other way. Mapleshade decided to leave her be it must just be a small cold; she wrapped her entire body around her and let her tail go over her head.

"Ow mom tell Patchkit to stop!" Mapleshade turned her focus back to her sons as Patchkit tugged Larchkit beneath him and gripped his scruff, making no escape.

"Alright Patchkit, that's enough. I'm sure he's learned." Mapleshade purred, Patchkit let go of the struggling kit and walked over to his mother. Rubbing his head against her fluffy fur. Mapleshade gave him a few licks as Larchkit padded over, both the kits fur was roughed up and ruined. They were both going to need a nice bath.

"Hey mom? Is Petalkit ok?" Patchkit tilted his head as he looked up at her.

"I'm sure she is, it looks like she has a small cold though." Mapleshade worried it would be worse than she had thought, but she didn't want to make her kits worry.

"Why don't you two go and play outside?" Both Patchkit and Larchkit looked at each other with beaming eyes before jumping around happily. They both stepped outside of the hole and stood on the branch.

"Make sure to stay inside the fence!" Mapleshade called after them as the leapt off of the branch without even going down to length their height. Mapleshade in shock stood up and leapt onto the branch swiftly just to see that they were rolling and tossing each other across the snow-covered field. she sighed and padded back over to Petalkit who had woke up sneezing.
