Chapter 9

Just before Sonic and Amy could join their hug, Tails noticed that Cosmo was quivering, he got worried and broke the hug asking: "Cosmo, is everything ok?"

Cosmo: "Tails... I'm... freezing..."

Tails just noticed that Cosmo wasn't wearing her jacket, he immediately took off his and gave it to her, at the same time he said: "Better go inside... Sonic, Amy, mind if we come in?"

Of course they saw everything that just happened, so they answered: "No, there's no problem, please, come in"

They headed inside the house the fastest possible, Cosmo was still quivering of cold and Tails started too, when they got inside Amy headed away and Sonic got inside the kitchen.

Sonic: "Do you need something, can I offer you some hot chocolate?"

Cosmo: "I think... I need it"

Tails: "Me too"

Meanwhile Amy just got back with some sheets, she handed them to both Tails and Cosmo, then she said: "Take a seat on the couch, let us take care of you".

Both Tails and Cosmo didn't refuse, they covered themselves and sat down on the couch, they started feeling better.

After a while Sonic got there with 2 cups of chocolate, he handed them to both Tails and Cosmo, then he asked: "Do you want some milk, sugar, anything?"

Tails: "Well, maybe some milk, thanks"

Cosmo: "I think I'll take it too"

Sonic got back in the kitchen, he took some milk from the fridge, he spilled it on a glass and warmed it on the microwave.

When it was warm enough, he took it and got back to them, he noticed that Amy was sitting on the armchair, next to them.

Sonic got next to Cosmo and said: "Tell me when to stop" then he started spilling the milk on her chocolate.

Cosmo immediately stopped him and said: "No, please, Tails first"

Sonic decided to make her happy, so he did the same for Tails, he took half of the glass of milk, then Cosmo took the other half.

Then Sonic placed the glass on the coffee table, Amy sat up and allowed Sonic to sit on the armchair, then Sonic invited her to get on his arms, of course she didn't refuse.

Both Tails and Cosmo were drinking slowly their chocolates, they were feeling good once again, but they decided to warm themselves for good before taking off their sheets.

Tails: "I cannot thank you enough for what you've done today"

Sonic: "Ahh, don't worry Tails, you know, I'll always help you if I can, oh, I forgot, take it".

Sonic gave to Amy the green emerald he had and Amy placed it on the coffee table.

Tails: "Thank you Sonic"

Amy: "Sooo, what were you doing here before Eggman attacked you?"

Tails wanted to explain, but Cosmo immediately said: "We needed to ask you something really important"

Sonic made a smile, then he said: "Yeah, what do you need?"

Cosmo: "We need your emeralds, please"

Both Sonic and Amy got surprised, then Sonic asked: "What do you need them for?"

Tails tried to explain: "Well, Cosmo and I decide to make a little journey, and..."

Cosmo interrupted him because she wanted to get right on the point, so she said: "I'm still missing my mom, we're going to meet her."

Once again they got surprised in hearing that, then Sonic asked: "Ok, but you still didn't answer me, what do you need our emeralds for?"

Tails: "Well, her planet is too far away, we need much power to use my spaceship. Knucles accepted on giving them to us, can you do the same?"

Both Sonic and Amy watched themselves with worried looks for a while, then Sonic decided to help him.

Both Amy and Sonic sat up, then they headed away for a while, when they got back, they handed Tails their emeralds saying: "Feel free Tails".

Tails smiled, but refused saying: "Guys, not yet, I thank you, but I need them for Christmas, not now".

After hearing that both Sonic and Amy understood more about their intention, so Sonic said: "Now this story is more clear".

Both Sonic and Amy were smiling, hearing what Tails had in mind, Sonic placed an arm around Amy and said: "There's nothing better than be with your family, and bring her back to her planet for Christmas, Tails, it's a wonderful idea."

Tails decided to uncover himself, he wasn't feeling cold anymore, he just ended his chocolate too.

He sat up and said: "Yeah, I cannot see her suffering because she's away from her mom, I must help her"

Sonic: "I'm proud of you Tails".

Tails smiled at him and said: "Thanks Sonic".

Cosmo asked to have some more rest before uncovering herself, she was still a bit cold, so they walked away, allowing her to rest more in peace.

When they got to the bedroom, both Sonic and Amy stopped hiding their concerns and Sonic said: "Tails, you understand how this story could end right?"

Tails got surprised and asked: "What do you mean?"

Amy: "We know that the last time it was all because of Cream, but if you bring Cosmo back home, it might be that she want to stay there and don't come back, leaving you alone once again, you know that? I think it's better if you don't do that".

Tails admitted he didn't thought about that, but he wasn't worried at all, he started explaining: "Actually, I'm not worried at all about this, because... I wanted to keep it secret, at least to her... but I've created a teleport, sadly it only works from a machine to another."

Both Sonic and Amy relaxed themselves after hearing that, knowing that Cosmo will surely come back home and they won't need to cheer up Tails, then he continued: "I'm bringing a machine to her world too... after Christmas, she'll be able to meet her mom everyday if she wants to".

They all were happy to hear that, Tails was really generous in what he was doing, so they gave him a nice hug.

After a while something got on Sonic's head, so he said: "Tails, tell me, how are you going to power the teleport?"

Tails: "I can power it with a chaos emerald, one is enough"

Sonic immediately found a problem in Tails' plan, so he said: "Tails, aren't you forgetting something?"

Tails: "What?"

Sonic: "If you need to power the teleport with a chaos emerald, you'll be forced to leave an emerald to their planet... how are you going to power your spaceship for the come back journey?"

Tails smiled and said: "You're wrong Sonic, I didn't forget about that"

Sonic then asked: "Then what are you going to do?"

Tails explained: "There's no need to power both of the teleports, one take energy from the other, so we'll come back from their planet with all 7 emeralds"

Sonic hitted his head and said: "I'm really stupid, I forgot that I'm talking to my buddy Tails"

Tails smiled to give him an answer of appreciation, then he said: "I guess we should go see how Cosmo's doing now"

Then Tails headed for the living room, where Cosmo was resting, both Sonic and Amy followed him.

When they got there, Cosmo was there still sitting on the couch covered by sheets, Tails asked: "Everything ok Cosmo?"

Cosmo took a while, then she uncovered herself and said: "Yeah... thanks, I'm fine"

Tails gave her a quick kiss on the forehead, then he said: "Yeah, you're not ill".

Cosmo once again didn't understand and asked: "What do you mean?"

Tails smiled and said: "You're not ill Cosmo, I checked your forehead temperature and you're not too hot."

Cosmo understood that Tails didn't understand correctly, so she said: "What I mean Tails is, what's ill?"

Tails got surprised and asked: "You mean that there are no disease on your planet?"

Cosmo shooked her head to say no, Tails almost started laughing saying: "There's so many difference between our world and yours".

Cosmo then sat up and gave him a hug saying: "That's the reason I love this world, it's much more wonderful than mine"

Tails invited her to sat down once again, so they did, then he asked: "What do you know about your world Cosmo?"

Both Sonic and Amy were curious, so they sat down and started to listen carefully to her too, Cosmo started saying said: "I don't know much about my world Tails, remember that I left when I was a little child"

Tails understood and nodded, then Cosmo continued: "All I know is that, except the tragedies you helped us to resolve, there are almost no conflicts, everything is so perfect, and much more beautiful than this world, I admit that... but it's so boring, there's almost nothing to do everyday... not like this wonderful world."

Tails smiled and asked: "So, you don't regret to staying in our world, right?"

Cosmo took a while and thought that Tails wanted to be sure of something, so she said: "I promise Tails, I won't change my mind, I'll come back..." Cosmo made a little pause "...to my home, here, with you" then she gave him a big hug.

Tails was so joyful to hear that, he hugged her back and caressed her, it was so wonderful, after a while both Sonic and Amy decided to join their hug.

Amy: "When I see you too acting like this, I'm really happy, I'm feeling like we're a family"

Everyone understood what Amy meant and agreeded with her.
